Two kinds of see through electric fireplace
The two Napoleon CLEARion fireplaces fit into a wall between rooms as a room divider. You see through the flames into the next room. For bedroom privacy, the center glass changes from clear to partly see-through to opaque. Each side has separate heat control. These units must be hardwired by an electrician.

Yes. CLEARion has separate heat controls for each side, so you can warm one room, both rooms or neither. Hardwired, each side heats about 800 square feet.
Do I need a chimney for a see through electric fireplace?
No. You need no gas line, no chimney and no vent. These units are for indoor use. For CLEARion, your builder frames the opening and finishes both faces, and an electrician hardwires the fireplace.
What is a see through fireplace called?
