How a hybrid room works

A traditional sauna heats the air with a stove and stones, while infrared heaters warm you directly at a lower temperature. A hybrid room has both. Golden Designs runs one or the other, while Finnmark can run both together. Golden Designs stoves reach 170 to 185 degrees, while Finnmark reaches 190 degrees with its stove and 170 degrees with infrared. Check the manual for your model. Compare infrared rooms and traditional saunas, explore our sauna collection, or read our guide to combining heat choices.

Choose an outdoor hybrid sauna

Golden Designs cabins are outdoor saunas that seat two to six people for time in your yard or on your patio. Choose an espresso cube with red cedar inside, a glass door and a tall window, a barn style room with a tile roof, or a Canadian hemlock cabin. Inside, you have lighting, speakers, a bucket and a scoop. These outdoor infrared saunas use a switch to select the heat. Compare space across our rooms for two people, three person options and four person collection.

Choose a room for indoors

Finnmark rooms seat two or four, with cedar interiors and two tiers of benches. These indoor saunas suit a basement or home gym and can run both heat sources together. The two person room's infrared side plugs into a standard household outlet. Its stove needs its own circuit, wired by a licensed electrician, and the four person room needs an electrician for its infrared and stove circuits. Read our sauna heater sizing guide to understand how the heater fits the room.

Your questions answered

What is a hybrid sauna with infrared heat?

It gives you two ways to heat one room. A stove with stones provides a hot, steamy session, while infrared heaters in the walls offer a gentler warm up at a lower temperature. Golden Designs and Finnmark both use a Harvia stove here.

Can a hybrid sauna run infrared and traditional heat at the same time?

It depends on the room you choose. Golden Designs cabins have a switch that runs the stove or the infrared heaters, one at a time. Finnmark indoor rooms let you choose an infrared warm up, the stove, or both at once.

How hot does a hybrid sauna get?

Stoves reach 170 to 185 degrees in Golden Designs rooms and 190 degrees in Finnmark rooms. Finnmark infrared reaches 170 degrees. Golden Designs describes gentler infrared warmth without a figure. Check the manual for your model.

Can I add a stove to an infrared sauna and make it a hybrid?

Better not. Users report infrared rooms handle added stove heat, steam and moisture poorly. Choose a purpose-built hybrid like Finnmark, whose separately wired stove and infrared heaters allow simultaneous use. Users report inlet and outlet vents release moist air into the surrounding room, so an open space suits them.

Can a hybrid sauna go indoors or outdoors?

Golden Designs cabins are outdoor rooms built for rain and sun. Finnmark rooms belong indoors, in a basement, spare room or home gym. Each room is made for its stated setting, so choose a hybrid sauna for the location you have.
