Valcourt makes wood burning fireplaces for two different reasons: enjoying a big fire in one room or heating most of your home. Start with what you want the fire to do, then think about the door and the look that suits your living room or great room. Valcourt wood burning fireplaces include traditional and modern designs, with doors that lift up or slide sideways out of sight, or a single glass door that opens wide.

What Valcourt makes

These wood fireplaces come from Stove Builder International, a family owned maker in Quebec, Canada. All are zero clearance units: a builder frames it into a wall during new construction or a renovation, with a chimney running up from it. You need no masonry fireplace. They burn dry seasoned firewood and fall into two kinds: ambiance fireplaces built for the look of the fire, and high-efficiency wood-burning fireplaces, each one an EPA certified heating appliance.

Ambiance fireplaces and heating fireplaces

The four ambiance fireplaces put the look of the fire and the sound of the fire first. They bring warmth to one room rather than heating the house. A guillotine door lifts out of the way, while another design has doors that slide sideways out of sight. A spark screen lets you enjoy open door fires. Shapes include tall windows and a long, low view among our linear fireplaces.

The seven heating fireplaces are for heating a large open room, most of a smaller house, or a large home, depending on the unit. They meet current EPA clean air rules. The largest has a firebox that takes logs up to 25 inches long, and a blower comes with most of these heating fireplaces. Door choices include a single glass door, double doors in a cast iron frame, and cast iron doors that slide aside. Many can also be framed into a corner. Browse our corner fireplaces if that placement suits your room.

How to choose your fireplace

Choose the fire you want first, then the door, then the finish. A traditional arched faceplate frames the opening differently from a square, modern face. On several heating models, you pick the louver pattern, the vented grille across the top of the faceplate, on the page. On an ambiance fireplace, brick panels change the backdrop behind the flames. When choosing a Valcourt wood fireplace, compare the heating range and burn time shown on its listing.

Our model-by-model comparison page walks through the same fireplaces by name. You can compare doors, looks and burn times, then pick the options on the page. An outside air kit feeds the fire from outdoors, and a glass hearth pad protects the floor in front. The chimney is separate from the fireplace. Browse class A chimney pipe and call us to discuss what your fireplace needs.

Frequently asked questions

Who makes Valcourt fireplaces?

Stove Builder International, also called SBI, makes them. It is a family owned Canadian company based in Quebec. The same company makes Osburn wood stoves, inserts and fireplaces. We carry both brands at My Cozy Outdoors.

Can a Valcourt fireplace heat my whole house?

The seven heating fireplaces cover 750 to 2,800 square feet, depending on the unit. A forced air kit can duct some heat to another room. Ambiance fireplaces are for one room, not the whole house. Check the listing for its range, or call us with the rooms you want to heat.

Do Valcourt fireplaces come with a blower?

A blower comes with some heating and ambiance fireplaces. It is a quiet fan that pushes warmth into the room. Other listings offer a blower or a gravity kit, which lets warm air rise through grilles. The fire burns without electricity and keeps burning when the blower is off.

How long will a Valcourt fireplace hold a fire overnight?

With doors closed, a full load of dry seasoned firewood and the air turned down, heating fireplaces burn up to 7, 8 or 11 hours, depending on the unit. The largest burns up to 11 hours. Ambiance fireplaces favor the view over overnight burning. Ask us which Valcourt fits the nights you have in mind.
