The faux wood mantel profiles on this page range from narrow, clean faces to deep, weathered beams. This Lexington Hearth fireplace mantel line gives you a realistic wood look in a cast piece. The wood texture comes from molds of real beams, then each faux mantel gets its hand-painted finish. Compare the face, depth and length to choose a faux wood fireplace mantel for your wall.

Compare faux wood mantels

These beams are cast from molds of real reclaimed beams. For a rustic fireplace beam mantel, compare Hayloft Beam’s hand hewn marks, Half-Round Sleeper’s half log face and Smokehouse’s barn timber look in its single 80 inch length.

Most beams come 48, 60 or 72 inches long, including Flat Sawn Beam with circular saw marks and Grist Mill, one of the lighter beams for narrower fireplace walls, while Classic has clean lines in 60 or 84 inch lengths. Farmhouse is the largest, 10 inches deep and 10 inches tall, in 72 or 84 inch lengths, and weighs over 200 pounds. Compare other brands in our fireplace mantels collection.

Shelves and other looks

Cabin Pine has a cabin log edge, Tobacco Barn has hand cut marks, and Rickhouse recalls Kentucky bourbon warehouse timber. These three beam shelves are shallower, about 6 to 7.5 inches deep, in 60 or 72 inch lengths with Tobacco Barn also in 48 inches, and each floating fireplace mantel hangs on a hidden steel bracket. Rockface adds a chiseled limestone look to these mantel shelves.

Horizon’s slim concrete look suits linear electric fireplaces, with a face just 3 inches tall. Federal is painted period style, with curves and small tooth-like blocks beneath the shelf.

Rough Sawn Wall Boards carry barn wood grain across the wall. Bracket trim comes in black or bronze and hides the seam where a two foot extension or a corner piece joins the mantel. Each trim fits one beam profile only: Hayloft Beam, Grist Mill, Flat Sawn Beam or the shared Rickhouse and Tobacco Barn profile.

What the mantels and shelves share

These indoor pieces are non-combustible and can usually sit closer than wood. Check the non-combustible mantel guide, your fireplace manual and local code for clearance, including over electric fireplaces.

Two people handle installation with the included steel mounting bracket, screws and touch up kit: install the bracket on studs first, then the mantel slides over it. Pick the length by your fireplace wall’s width and the color on the page, with five hand-painted colors on most. Ask about custom lengths and colors matched by the maker from a photo or sample you send.

Your questions answered

Can a faux wood mantel go over a gas or wood burning fireplace?

Most online faux beams are foam or polyurethane, which burns and needs wood mantel clearance. Lexington Hearth uses a cast, non-combustible mix that will not burn and can usually sit closer. Unlike real wood, cast mantels do not warp, crack or split with heat. Your fireplace manual and local code set distances for gas, electric and wood units.

How do you hang a faux wood beam mantel?

A steel mounting bracket, screws and touch up kit come in the box. The bracket screws into wall studs, and the mantel slides over the bracket. Hanging takes two people. Farmhouse weighs over 200 pounds, and its heavy duty bracket must screw into four studs.

What are the disadvantages of a faux wood mantel?

Foam can look printed and cannot go near heat. These cast pieces are not lightweight foam beams and need two people, with the largest over 200 pounds. They cannot be cut onsite, so choose a listed or custom length. Hand painting means color may differ from photos on your faux wood mantel.

How high should a faux wood mantel sit above the fireplace?

First, your fireplace manual and local code set minimum clearance above the firebox. Cast pieces can usually sit closer than wood. For the look, the maker suggests 54 to 60 inches from the floor and 3 to 6 inches beyond each firebox side. Measure and mark the stud positions before drilling for your faux wood mantel.
