Our outdoor barrel sauna collection holds SaunaLife’s round Ergo kits in natural and black finishes. Choose a length for three, four or six people, then decide how much glass you want around you. The rounded shape gives your backyard a distinct outdoor room for a traditional sauna experience and relaxation, with a curved bench along each side. Start with the interior space you need to sit, then choose the front and heater for your Finnish sauna session.

What a barrel sauna is here

Thermo-spruce staves form the round room, held tight by steel bands. This kiln-baked spruce handles moisture with little upkeep, while aspen benches run along each side with room to stand between them. The shape leaves less air to heat than a cube. Browse our sauna collection or compare the shapes across our outdoor rooms.

Pick a length and a front

The SaunaLife Ergo line offers lengths of about 59 inches for three people, six feet for four people and over seven feet for six people, all about 81 inches across. Choose plain with a glass door, a half moon window at the rear, or a glass front with bronze tinted glass. The two wider barrels add headroom, deeper seats and two rows of benches. Choose natural or black. A cube sauna offers flat walls and more bench layouts.

Choose the heat and understand the kit

The heater is not in the kit, and an electric sauna heater package with control and stones is chosen on the page. It needs its own circuit, wired by a licensed electrician. Five barrels can take your own stove for a wood burning sauna, with chimney parts chosen on the page and installation following the manual.

Two people build it in about a day, using the cradles included with the barrel sauna kits. Compare other sauna kits and the wider SaunaLife range. This page also holds a Sweaty Yeti finished sauna building paired with a barrel shaped cold plunge.

Your questions answered

Which is better, a barrel sauna or a cube sauna?

The barrel gives you a classic round room with less air to heat and a curved bench each side. A cube has flat walls, a whole glass front and more bench layouts, including two rows. The wider barrels here offer two rows too.

Can you put a barrel sauna indoors?

These kits are made for outdoors, with a shingle roof and spruce baked to handle weather. They sit on their cradles in the yard. For a room inside your house, our Indoor Saunas page holds indoor kits and rooms.

Electric or wood burning: which is right for a barrel sauna?

Choose electric packages on the page with our heater sizing guide. A licensed electrician wires the dedicated circuit. Five barrels accept your own wood stove. Wood burning needs no power, brings a fire's smell and crackle, and needs tending and chimney parts chosen on the page.

How long does it take to build a barrel sauna kit?

The listings say two people build it in about a day. Staves, steel bands, glass door, benches, roof and cradles are included. Choose the heater package on the page. An electrician wires the heater, or your wood stove needs a chimney for the barrel sauna.
