Sauna kits here include SaunaLife barrels, cubes, cabins, pods and an indoor room, Golden Designs outdoor cabins, and Finnmark indoor rooms. If you want to build your own sauna, a DIY sauna kit brings the parts together for you to assemble. Choose an indoor sauna kit for a dry room in the house or an outdoor sauna kit for the backyard. Start with where the room will go, then the shape and the number of people.

What is a sauna kit?

A kit is a flat pack of finished parts that two people assemble. SaunaLife supplies staves or beams, benches, glass and vents, with the heater chosen on the page. Golden Designs and Finnmark include heaters. If you want a room that arrives built, browse our separate page of prebuilt saunas. Browse all saunas and heaters or read how to build a sauna.

Choose between three kit pages

Our home sauna kits page sorts the kits for a house by indoor and outdoor locations. If you have not chosen where the room will go, start there to compare both. This helps you choose a home sauna kit around the space you have.

Our outdoor sauna kits page holds barrels, cubes, cabins and pods for the yard. Start there if you have chosen the backyard and want to compare the different shapes. You can then narrow your choice around the space and seating you need.

Our barrel sauna kits page holds SaunaLife’s round rooms in three lengths, with plain, window or glass front options. Start there if you want a barrel sauna kit and need to compare seating and glass.

Indoor or outdoor?

Compare indoor saunas for a dry spare room with outdoor saunas for the backyard, planning the base. A traditional sauna uses heated stones for the Finnish sauna feel. An infrared sauna uses direct heat without steam. A hybrid sauna offers both kinds.

Choose your room size

Kits range from a one person room to an eight person suite. Compare two person rooms and three person layouts. Browse four person options for more seats.

Heater, stove and power

Compare sauna heaters, including electric heater packages with controls and stones. Electric heaters need their own circuit, wired by a licensed electrician. Compatible wood burning stoves need chimney parts chosen on the page and installation following the manual. Find buckets and stones among sauna accessories.

Meet the makers

SaunaLife makes traditional rooms, including thermo-spruce kits in natural or black. You can compare its round Ergo barrels with the glass fronted Cube line, cabins and pods. Once you choose the room, its heater package is chosen on the page.

Golden Designs offers outdoor cabins, including designs with red cedar inside, and a Harvia stove in the box. You can choose traditional heat or a hybrid room that also has infrared heaters. The maker says two adults assemble a cabin in about an hour with two screwdrivers and a ladder.

Finnmark lines its indoor rooms with cedar too, and they come as finished panels that screw together. These rooms suit you if you have chosen a space inside the house. You can choose infrared heat or a hybrid room with a stove as well.

Your kit questions

Can I install a sauna kit myself?

Yes, with a helper, you can assemble the room. Two people build a SaunaLife barrel in about a day, a cabin in about two days, or its indoor kit in an afternoon. An electric heater needs its own circuit, wired by a licensed electrician.

Does a sauna kit include the heater?

It depends on the maker. SaunaLife offers room-sized electric packages chosen on the page, with controls and stones, while some rooms accept your own wood burning stove. Golden Designs includes a Harvia stove. Finnmark includes infrared heaters, plus a stove and stones in its hybrids.

Can I use the same sauna kit indoors or outdoors?

No, each kit is built for one location. Indoor rooms have no roof and need a dry space inside, while outdoor kits have a weather-built shell and roof. Pick the place first, then use the Home Sauna Kits page to compare both.

Is a steam sauna kit the same as a traditional sauna kit?

Usually yes, if you mean a stove-heated room where water ladled over stones makes steam. SaunaLife and Golden Designs rooms and Finnmark hybrids offer this. A steam room is a tiled room kept damp by a steam generator, and we do not sell kits for it.

Should I choose an electric or wood burning heater?

Electric offers a sized package and control, wired by an electrician. Compatible wood burning stoves need a chimney and someone to tend the fire, but no power. Use our heater sizing guide to choose an electric heater for your sauna kit.
