Choose large outdoor planters to bring greenery and a clear focal point to your patio, pool deck, entryway or courtyard. This collection brings together wide, low bowls, bowls that combine plants with flowing water, and Corten steel boxes and tapered shapes. Every piece comes from The Outdoor Plus and is made in the USA. You can choose a shape for a single garden accent or match a planter to a fire bowl across your pool steps. Start with the shape, then compare the material, finish and planting space.

Three kinds of outdoor planters

Our planter bowls are wide, low vessels in round and square shapes, including a fluted urn with a pedestal foot. For greenery and moving water together, choose planter and water bowls. Each has a central planting well and a front scupper that pours into the pool below. The scupper and fitting are included; you supply the water line. For a box or taller tapered shape, find Corten steel planters among our metal planters.

Choose your material and finish

Our concrete planters use glass-fiber concrete that looks like stone at a fraction of the weight. Choose from 18 colors or a wood grain finish with cast grain and knots. Hammered copper develops a blue-green patina, while brushed stainless steel keeps a bright look with an occasional wipe. Powder-coated steel offers 15 colors. Corten is weathering steel that develops a rust-colored surface, deepening from orange to brown without paint or sealer.

Find the size for your planting

The bowls measure 24 to 48 inches across and hold about 1 to 6 cubic feet of soil. Think ornamental grasses, succulents, trailing flowers or seasonal color. For a small or specimen tree, compare soil capacity as well as height. Compare low and tall shapes when choosing large planters. The largest Corten vessel holds up to 20 cubic feet. Low square and rectangular boxes also work as raised beds. Every piece arrives ready to fill and plant, with soil and plants not included.

Match your fire and water features

The bowl shapes come from the same molds as the maker's gas fire bowls, water-only bowls and combined fire and water bowls. Match shape, size, color and finish across your pool steps. For a coordinated gathering area, consider concrete fire pits in matching finishes or hammered copper fire pits. Frequently asked questions

What is the most durable material for an outdoor planter?

All five materials are built for year-round outdoor use. Glass-fiber concrete does not rot, copper and Corten form protective surfaces, stainless steel needs an occasional wipe, and powder coat resists sun and rain. Choose the look you prefer.

What size outdoor planter should I choose?

Bowls measure 24 to 48 inches across and hold 1 to 6 cubic feet of soil for grasses, succulents or a small tree. Corten sizes reach 60 inches, with the largest capacity at 20 cubic feet. Match sizes when flanking a doorway.

Do these planters have drainage holes?

The product pages do not list a drain, so ask us about your chosen piece and location before ordering. Use loose, free-draining potting mix with gravel at the bottom. A planter on paving may need drainage that one in a bed does not.

Can I match a planter to my fire bowl or water bowl?

Yes. The planting vessels share molds with the maker's fire, water and combined bowls. You can match sizes, colors and finishes, so pieces on opposite sides of pool steps line up. The planted water versions also pour water themselves.

Can an outdoor planter stay outside in winter?

Yes, these pieces are made for outdoor use. Trapped water that freezes can crack a planter, so keep the mix free-draining, avoid waterlogged soil and leave room at the top. Metals tolerate cold, and the concrete contains glass fibers for strength.
