Double wall stove pipe connects your wood stove to the chimney inside the room, with less clearance needed than plain black pipe. This collection holds 13 DuraVent DVL parts, with 6, 7 or 8 inch options on most pieces. Choose the diameter to match your stove outlet. Its stainless steel inner wall warms quickly, with air between the walls. It holds the heat while the outer wall stays cooler.

When double wall black stove pipe is the right call

Your stove manual gives two clearance sets. DVL allows 6 inches from the wall. Plain single wall stove pipe needs 18 inches. Check clearance near a mantel or beam, too. Hotter smoke helps draft and reduces creosote. Compare the numbers in our guide to double wall stove pipe clearance.

Which piece does what

Choose 6 inch double wall stove pipe or 8 inch double wall stove pipe to match the flue outlet. 7 inch is also available. The DVL line includes straight lengths that cannot be cut, an adjustable length for gaps and telescoping lengths for height changes. A close clearance connector kit suits a straight run to an 8 foot ceiling. Chimney, support box and stove connector are separate. Elbows turn the run. A tee with clean-out serves a rear outlet. Stove adapters connect the pipe to the stove and handle collar fit, and your stove maker decides whether you need a damper. An increaser steps up diameter. A decreaser needs the stove maker’s or inspector’s approval.

Where the stove pipe ends and the chimney begins

DVL stops at the ceiling or wall. A required chimney adapter joins it to class A chimney pipe. This double wall chimney pipe has insulation between its walls, unlike the connector. Explore triple wall chimney kits for the other class A line, or wood stove chimney kits for bundled stove-to-roof runs.

FAQ

When do I need double wall stove pipe?

Choose it when the pipe cannot meet the 18 inch clearance single wall needs. DVL allows 6 inches from combustible walls. Check the stove manual’s clearances, too. Even with room to spare, hotter smoke can help draft and leave less creosote.

Do I need double wall stove pipe outside or through the ceiling?

No. Connector pipe stays inside the room. At the ceiling or wall, the run must change to insulated chimney pipe built for that job. The chimney adapter joins the indoor connector to the chimney. DVL itself does not pass through.

Can I connect single wall stove pipe to double wall?

Both lines share sizes and a chimney adapter, but that does not approve mixing them. Single wall sections still need 18 inches of clearance. For a close-wall stove, use double wall throughout. Ask the stove maker or inspector before mixing.
