Modern Flames gives you several ways to add an electric fire, from a traditional insert for an existing opening to a wide fireplace for a feature wall. Start with the space you have, then choose the flame look and controls you want. Below, you can compare inserts, slim built-ins, three sided fireplaces and a shallow wall mount design. You will also find wood media walls, floating mantel packages and real wood logs to help finish the look in your living room, bedroom or office.

How every Modern Flames fireplace works

All Modern Flames electric fireplaces need no gas line, no chimney and no vent. Plug one into an outlet on its own circuit to use the built in heater for extra heat in up to about 400 square feet. An electrician can hardwire the three sided units and larger inserts for more heat. You can run the flames with or without heat for ambiance year-round.

Every unit includes a remote. All series except RedStone and Spectrum Slimline also work through the app. Landscape Pro adds voice control through Alexa or Google Home. For other brands, browse our Electric Fireplaces hub.

The four kinds of fireplace

A Modern Flames electric fireplace insert fits an existing opening or a new wall. Modern Flames RedStone, Modern Flames Orion Traditional and Modern Flames Orion V2 Traditional span widths from 26 to 54 inches. A surround covers gaps on some sizes. Compare electric fireplace inserts, or see our Fireplace Inserts hub for other fuels.

For a built-in electric fireplace, Orion Slim, Orion V2 Slim and Modern Flames Landscape Pro Slim are about 6 inches deep or less and fit a standard 2 by 6 wall. Widths run from 44 to 100 inches. They can also hang on the wall. Compare our linear electric fireplace range and wall mounted electric fireplaces.

The Orion Multi, Orion V2 Multi and Landscape Pro Multi are three sided units, 44 to 120 inches wide. They suit a flat wall, corner or bay, with fire visible on two or three sides. Our 3 sided fireplaces collection includes other brands and fuels.

Modern Flames Spectrum Slimline is only 4 inches deep. This wall mount unit hangs on a bracket or sits inside a standard 2 by 4 wall. Choose widths from 50 to 100 inches.

The fire itself and covered patio options

Orion and Orion V2 show high definition video of real flames on a screen, one of the two kinds of flame technology in this range. V2 adds deeper blacks, brighter flames, new flame styles through the app and speakers for crackling sounds or Bluetooth music. Landscape Pro, RedStone and Spectrum Slimline use lit logs and let you customize flame colors, ember bed colors and downlight colors.

TruWood log kits replace standard logs with hand-charred real wood logs on every series except Spectrum Slimline. Every fireplace is suitable for indoor use. Orion V2 and Landscape Pro also suit a covered patio, out of rain and direct sun. The V2 insert must be built in outdoors. Compare our outdoor electric fireplaces.

Wood wall kits and floating mantels

Modern Flames wall kits finish the wall around a fireplace, which is sold separately. Allwood media walls create a floor-to-ceiling look around a 60 inch Spectrum Slimline or Orion Slim, with a mantel shelf and optional side shelf towers. They fasten to wall studs. Your installer cuts the top panel if you want a TV opening.

Studio Suites floating mantel packages wrap a wall mounted Orion Multi or Landscape Pro Multi in a wood cabinet. Both lines offer Coastal Sand, Driftwood Grey and Weathered Walnut. Studio Suites also offers Ready to Finish white primer for your own paint. Browse our Fireplace Mantels hub and mantel shelves collection for other styles.
