Choose a wall mounted electric fireplace for your living room or bedroom, then decide whether to hang it or recess it flush. We have more than 25 options from four brands, with widths up to 120 inches. Most work either way. You can pick flame colors and an ember bed color, and every unit has a remote. Run the flame display without heat when you just want the glow. A wall fireplace needs no vent and no chimney.

How to choose a wall mount electric fireplace

A surface mount hangs on a bracket, standing 4 to 6 inches out with no construction. For a recessed electric fireplace, your builder finishes drywall, tile or stone to the edge. A 4-inch unit fits a 2 by 4 wall; a 6-inch unit needs a 2 by 6 wall.

Measure your preferred width and check the glass front height, from 12 to 20 inches. Fourteen options are linear fireplaces. For a corner or bay, compare two- and three-sided fireplaces; four here are three-sided. An existing opening may suit our electric fireplace inserts.

Modern Flames supplies seven options showing video of real flames. SimpliFire supplies seven, including a floating fireplace with its own white mantel and colored downlights. You can also choose the SimpliFire Inception, a 36-inch indoor built-in with a log fire look that needs no gas line or chimney. Napoleon supplies fifteen units that hang like a picture on an included bracket, including Entice in 36 to 72 inches, which can also recess flush. Allure Vertical is narrow and upright. Empire Comfort Systems supplies one, the Nexfire Linear, in 34 or 74 inches, which hangs with an optional black surround or recesses into your wall. Some units slide into an already framed, finished wall.

A regular outlet on its own circuit provides heat to take the chill off about 400 square feet. An electrician can use a heavier circuit for a hardwired connection and about twice the heat.

FAQ

Do wall mounted electric fireplaces have to be recessed?

No. Hang one on its bracket, 4 to 6 inches out, with no construction—useful for a condo or apartment. Recess it into a framed opening for a flush face. Most here do either; slide-in options fit already framed, finished openings.

Can I put a TV above a wall mounted electric fireplace?

Yes. These units release heat from the front or bottom rather than the top. Follow the manual’s clearance requirements between the fireplace and TV. You can also keep the flames on with the heat off while watching.

Where does the outlet go for a wall mounted electric fireplace?

For recessed units, place the outlet inside the wall behind the fireplace; for surface mounts, just below or behind it. Use an outlet on its own circuit. An electrician can hardwire it for more heat. Never use an extension cord.
