This page holds one Osburn cook stove, the Osburn Gusto, for cooking, baking and room heat from one wood fire. If you want your cabin, homestead or farmhouse kitchen to keep working through a power outage, the Gusto heats and cooks with no electricity. It suits off grid living, too. You can make dinner while the same fire brings warmth to your room in winter.

What the Osburn Gusto does

The Gusto is a wood-burning cookstove that provides room heating while you cook on top or bake in its spacious stainless steel oven. The oven has a two-position rack and a built-in thermometer in the door. Wood handles stay cool, and a separate glass door lets you watch the fire. Load logs into the firebox and turn the air down for burns up to 8 hours.

What your cookstove needs

Once installed on a hearth pad with stovepipe and chimney, your cookstove needs dry seasoned firewood. The pad and venting are sold separately. We have complete through-the-wall or through-the-roof chimney kits. Follow the manual for clearances to walls and cabinets.

Options include a blower to push heat into the room and an outside air kit to feed the fire. Choose front molding in black or brushed nickel. Add a cast iron Dutch oven or soapstone plates to keep food warm on the cooktop.

Heat alone, or a fireplace you already have

For heat alone, look at Osburn wood stoves or our full Wood Stoves collection. For an existing masonry fireplace, browse Osburn fireplace inserts. You can also explore the complete Osburn range.

Cookstove FAQ

Can I cook on top of an Osburn wood stove?

A plain Osburn wood stove can keep a kettle warm, but its top is not a cooktop and it has no oven. The Gusto is built to cook and bake. Its cooktop can bring a liter of water to a boil in under 20 minutes.

Can a wood burning cookstove heat an entire house?

The maker rates the Gusto for about 500 to 2,100 square feet, enough for most of a smaller house or cabin from one open room. Closed rooms in a larger home may need another heat source. The optional blower pushes warmth into the room. Call us with your floor plan.

Do I need floor protection under the Osburn Gusto?

Yes. The Gusto needs a hearth pad, a fireproof panel under and in front of the stove. Follow the manual for pad size and clearances to walls, cabinets, the cooktop and oven door. Call us and we will talk it through for your kitchen.
