Gas, electric or wood
A gas fireplace uses natural gas; most gas fireplaces here offer propane options. Direct vent models have sealed glass and a pipe outside, not a chimney. Vent-free models need no vent pipe and suit an open-plan room divider or half wall; check local code first.

Size and the look of the fire

Do double sided fireplaces heat both rooms?
