An Osburn wood fireplace gives you a real wood fire built into a wall, with no masonry fireplace needed. These three fireplaces suit new construction or a renovation, whether you want warmth for an open living area or most of a house. An optional outside air kit feeds the fire from outdoors. A forced air kit can send some heat to another room. Compare the doors, finishes and burn times below.

How an Osburn wood fireplace fits into your wall

A zero clearance wood fireplace has a steel body your builder frames into a wall, with a chimney running up from it. The insulated chimney is separate. Close the doors for long clean burns, or use the firescreen with open doors for the sound of the fire. All three are EPA certified wood fireplaces that meet current clean air rules and heat with no electricity.

Compare the three fireplaces

Osburn Stratford II, also written Osburn Stratford 2, has double doors made of cast iron that swing open. It burns up to 8 hours. Choose a traditional or modern faceplate. A heat shield for a mantel shelf is optional.

Osburn Everest III is slightly larger, with cast iron doors that slide up out of sight. It also burns up to 8 hours. Optional dark glass hides the idle firebox and turns clear when the fire burns.

Osburn Horizon is the largest, with a wide glass door and room for 60 pounds of wood. It burns up to 11 hours. Its prairie style faceplate and molded brick panels come with it.

Already have a fireplace, or no wall to frame?

For an existing masonry fireplace, choose Osburn wood inserts. With no wall to frame, consider freestanding wood stoves on a hearth pad. The same maker's other heating appliances are wood stoves, wood inserts and a pellet stove, all on the brand page. Frequently asked questions

Are Osburn fireplaces good?

Stove Builder International builds them in Quebec, Canada, and has been building since 1979. These Canadian made units meet current EPA clean air rules and need no electricity for heat. Their non catalytic design means there is no catalyst part to replace.

How do you use an Osburn wood fireplace?

Build a fire on the firebox floor with dry seasoned firewood. Let it catch with the air open, then close the doors and reduce the air. Open the doors with the firescreen to hear the fire. An optional forced air kit sends heat to another room. Follow your owner's manual for first fires and clearances.

Is it okay to leave a wood burning fireplace on all night?

With closed doors and reduced air, Stratford II and Everest III burn up to 8 hours, and Horizon up to 11 hours. Never leave doors open overnight. Use dry seasoned wood, keep the chimney swept, and follow the manual. Do not leave an open masonry fire unattended. Used that way, an Osburn wood fireplace is built for an overnight burn.
