DuraVent DirectVent Pro brings together pipe, elbows, adjustable pieces, wall and roof caps, flashings, supports, wall run kits and chimney liner kits for sealed gas fireplaces, stoves and inserts. Choose this DuraVent direct vent pipe only when your appliance manual names the line. Start with the outlet size and the route to the outside. The appliance maker decides which parts, vent lengths and termination cap you can use. The pipe is tested and listed for direct vent gas appliances, so fireplace or stove installation instructions decide the run.

How a direct vent run works

For sealed gas fireplaces, the inner pipe carries exhaust out and the outer pipe brings combustion air in. Each appliance needs its own vent. Choose between the two vent sizes, 4 by 6 5/8 inch and 5 by 8 inch, to match the appliance outlet, or use DirectVent Pro 8x11 when specified.

Choose painted black pipe with smooth welded seams for the room or galvanized for hidden runs and better corrosion resistance above the roof. The sections have a twist-lock construction, so pipe lengths and elbows lock together by hand. If your manual calls for natural-draft B vent instead, use Model BV gas vent pipe.

The pieces in the order you use them

Start with any appliance adapter the manual specifies, then choose straight lengths. Allow 1 1/2 inches per joint and use adjustable pipe or an extension to fill gaps without cutting. Add elbows for bends and straps for support, following the appliance maker's route limits.

For a wall exit, choose the specified wall thimble and approved horizontal termination cap, checking what your kit includes. For a roof exit, plan the ceiling support, firestops, required attic insulation shield, roof flashing, roof support, storm collar and approved cap. The caps and the vent lengths are specified by the appliance manufacturer. Keep parts in the approved system, using adapters to CVS concentric venting only for approved longer power-vented runs.

Using a chimney you already have

For gas fireplace inserts in masonry chimneys, co-linear kits use two flexible liners and one cap. Reline kits serve existing factory-built metal chimneys, while conversion kits let gas stoves use suitable old chimneys. Have the chimney inspected and cleaned first, and check that the kit is listed with your appliance.

Why buy DirectVent Pro from My Cozy Outdoors

We are an authorized DuraVent dealer, and the full manufacturer warranty applies. Our DuraVent brand page groups the lines by what they vent. This venting system is one of several DuraVent lines for a gas appliance, and we check the vent size against the appliance model by phone. Send us the appliance model and a sketch of the run and we will write the parts list.

Your venting questions

How is a direct vent gas fireplace vented?

Exhaust leaves through the inner pipe, while outside combustion air enters through the outer pipe at the same cap. The sealed fireplace never uses warm room air. The run exits through a wall or roof, following the maker's limits on length and elbows.

Does DirectVent Pro need sealant?

The sections twist and lock together with tight inner connections, without a gasket or sealant. If your appliance maker calls for sealant at the joints, follow those instructions. The appliance maker also names the approved caps.

Can I use DirectVent Pro with an existing chimney?

Gas inserts can use two-liner co-linear kits in brick chimneys or reline kits in factory-built metal chimneys. Gas stoves use conversion kits for old wood stove or masonry chimneys. Have the chimney inspected and cleaned first, and use DirectVent Pro kits listed with your appliance.
