Our sauna heaters include electric models from Harvia, HUUM and Saunum, wood burning stoves from Harvia, HUUM and Narvi, and a propane option. Whether you are building a home sauna or replacing a sauna stove, start with the fuel your room will use. Then match the size to the room, decide between wall and floor, and choose a brand and control. Everything here heats stones for a traditional sauna, where you ladle water onto the rocks for steam, or löyly in a Finnish sauna.

Choosing a sauna heater: electric, wood or propane

Electric suits an indoor sauna or an outdoor sauna with power. You start heating with a dial, a wall control or a phone, depending on the model and control. Browse our electric heaters for rooms with power to compare Harvia, HUUM and Saunum by line. An electric heater needs no chimney and no firewood.

A wood-burning stove suits a cabin, a barrel or a room away from power. You build a fire, hear the logs crackle and add water to the hot stones for steam. Our wood-burning stoves from three brands need a chimney but no wiring. Check the listing for chimney parts and stones to add.

The propane sauna heater and its add-ons run from a standard propane tank, with the regulator and hose included. It needs neither wiring nor a chimney. Use it only with the maker's own portable sauna tents or an outdoor cabin with open vents for ventilation, and follow the manual. If you are choosing the room too, visit our complete sauna and heater collection.

Wall heaters and floor heaters

Wall heaters keep the floor clear, with options for small and medium rooms up to about 530 cubic feet. The KIP suits small home rooms, while the Drop covers rooms up to 530 cubic feet. Floor heaters hold more stones, with the Hive Mini serving home rooms and the Hive reaching larger rooms up to about 1240 cubic feet. For an outdoor sauna heater, several cabins here use Harvia electric models, while wood or propane serves rooms without power.

Get to know the four brands

Harvia makes electric heaters and wood stoves in Finland. Its range includes compact wall heaters, stone-filled pillars and wood stoves with large stone loads. Visit the Harvia page to compare shapes and fuel options for your room.

HUUM makes its heaters and stoves in Estonia with large stone loads for soft heat and lasting steam. Its electric models all use an outside control. The internal air duct in HUUM floor columns shortens heat-up time by heating the room up to 25 percent faster. Compare every HUUM heater and stove if stone capacity is part of the sauna experience you want.

A Saunum sauna heater has a built-in fan that mixes hot ceiling air with cooler air near the floor. The Air uses the AirIQ Wi-Fi control. On the Saunum collection page, you will also find the AirSolo, which mixes air beside an existing heater but makes no heat.

A Narvi sauna heater is a floor-standing wood stove designed and built in Finland. The range includes compact shapes, family stoves and sizes for club rooms. Browse the Narvi wood stove collection to match the room range and shape to your setup.

Sizing, stones and controls

Choosing the right heater starts with room measurements. Multiply length, width and height in feet to find cubic feet, then choose a listing whose room range covers that figure. Match its kW label to that range using our guide to sizing an electric heater.

A bare heater comes without sauna stones, and each listing gives the boxes to add on the page. HUUM and Saunum packages include the full stone load and control. Some Harvia models have built-in controls, while others need a Xenio wall control. HUUM heaters run from a HUUM UKU control, and Saunum heaters run from the Saunum AirIQ control.

An electric sauna heater needs its own circuit, wired by a licensed electrician. Where offered, you pick the home or commercial power supply on the page. Before installation, check the listing for the control and other parts your setup needs.

The rest of the sauna

Our complete traditional saunas pair a room with stone-based heating. If you are building from a kit, browse sauna rooms supplied as kits, many with a heater choice on the page. Finish with a bucket, ladle or thermometer from our sauna accessories collection.

Your heater questions

What type of heater is best for a sauna?

Electric suits rooms with power and starts from a dial, wall control or phone. Wood suits rooms away from power when you want a fire. Propane suits the maker's portable tents or outdoor cabins with open vents. All three heat stones you can ladle water onto.

What size sauna heater do I need?

Multiply length, width and height in feet to get cubic feet. Choose a heater whose listed range covers the room, using kW as its size label. Small rooms start around 100 cubic feet, and larger options cover more than 1200. Call us with your measurements.

Do the heaters come with stones and a control?

Bare heaters and stoves need the listed stone boxes added. Some Harvia heaters have the controls built in, and the others need a Harvia Xenio wall control that you add on the page. Every HUUM heater needs a HUUM UKU control, and every Saunum heater needs the AirIQ control. HUUM and Saunum packages include both.

Can I control the heater remotely?

The HUUM UKU Wi-Fi control starts heating through the HUUM app and schedules starts up to 48 hours ahead. Saunum AirIQ has a phone app, three stored settings and a weekly schedule. Some Harvia heaters offer delayed starts up to 8 hours using a timer on the heater.

Can you pour water on a sauna heater?

Yes, every heater and stove here has stones made for water. On electric heaters, stones sit directly on the heating elements. Ladle a little water onto them for steam. On the Cilindro, water on the side makes gentle steam, while water on top makes it sharp.
