Saunum Air L 10: a bigger stone basket for a sauna used often
The Saunum Air L 10 is a floor standing electric sauna heater rated at 10 kW. Its larger Air L body has a bigger stone basket for a sauna that gets regular use. It heats rooms of 283 to 494 cubic feet and needs a ceiling at least 71 inches high. A quiet fan draws ceiling heat down through an intake that extends upward to suit the room. It mixes that heat with cooler air near the floor and releases the blend low in the room. This helps the lower bench feel as warm as the upper bench and softens the steam.
Salt spheres and their tray come with the heater. It needs the Saunum AirIQ Wi-Fi control to run, and you add that on the page. Sauna stones are sold separately, so add the 6 boxes it needs on the page. On the page you choose stainless steel or Nordic black. Stainless steel leaves the stones visible in an open basket. Nordic black has a closed basket. Want everything in one order? See the Saunum Air L 10 package. The Saunum Air L 10 ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.
FAQ
What do I need to add to the Air L 10 to have a complete sauna heater?
Two things the page lists as sold separately: a control and stones. Both are on this page as add-ons: pick the AirIQ Wi-Fi control under Sauna Heater Control (Required) and the rounded olivine stones under Sauna Stones (Required), sold in 33 lb boxes toward the 265 lb capacity. Supply cable, breaker and installation come from your licensed electrician.
Is 9.8 kW enough for my sauna?
The Specifications tab rates this heater for rooms of 247 to 459 cubic feet with a minimum 71 inch ceiling. Multiply length, width and height in feet and add extra volume for glass, tile, brick or stone surfaces as shown on the Sizing Your Saunum sheet in the Manual tab. If your figure is near 459 or has a lot of glass, the manual recommends stepping up to the next size.
What breaker and wire does it need?
The Specifications tab lists 240 V single phase, 41.66 A, a 50 A circuit breaker and number 6 conductors plus neutral and ground to the control power unit. The manual leaves final breaker and cable sizing to a licensed electrician following the NEC and local code, requires a splashproof junction box no higher than 20 inches off the sauna floor, and rules out GFCI protection on this circuit.
How does the air-mixing system work, and when should it run?
A whisper-quiet three-speed fan draws hot air through a ceiling-level intake, mixes it with cooler air entering a valve about 12 inches off the floor, and blows the blend out low through a 4.31 by 14.13 inch outlet. The manual says to keep the fan off during heat-up, switch it on as you enter, and turn it off when you leave so the bench does not overheat.
What kind of stones does it use?
Rounded olivine diabase stones, 2 to 4 inches, pre-washed and ready to use, with a 265 lb capacity. The manual warns against light porous ceramic stones or soft tiles, which store too little heat and can damage the elements, and against forcing stones between elements. Stack bigger stones low to create air channels, cover the elements completely, and restack the load at least once a year.
What ventilation does the sauna room need?
The manual requires a fresh-air intake, 3.25 to 4 inch diameter, positioned under or beside the heater, plus an exhaust vent near the floor as far away as possible with twice the intake diameter, giving at least six air changes per hour. Keep the temperature sensor at least 20 inches from any air opening, since airflow across it gives false readings and can let the heater overheat.
What is the warranty and which finish options exist?
The Includes tab lists a 2-year warranty for consumer use; the Air L manual conditions it on installation by a qualified electrician and excludes labor, heating elements and the salt spheres. Model Options on this page chooses between the stainless steel and black body, with any price difference shown on the selector. See the rest of the range in our electric sauna heater category.
