Our traditional saunas include SaunaLife barrels, cubes and cabins, Golden Designs cabins and Sweaty Yeti finished buildings. Choose a hot room for your backyard or SaunaLife’s two person indoor kit for your home. A stove heats stones and air, with steam when you ladle water over the stones. Start with where the room will sit, how many people will share a bench and which heater type you want.

What is a traditional Finnish sauna?

A stove holds a pile of stones to heat the air around you. Enjoy a dry sauna session or add water for steam and humidity. Golden Designs rooms reach 170 to 185 degrees. Check the manual for your model. Compare every kind in our sauna collection, explore an infrared sauna for direct warmth, or consider a hybrid sauna with both heat sources. Our guide to hybrid rooms explains the choice.

Barrel, cube, cabin or finished building?

Compare barrel saunas, a cube or a cabin sauna in our outdoor saunas. Browse sizes for two people, three people or four people. Wider barrels have two rows of benches, while a larger cabin offers a changing room for eight people. For a finished building, explore sauna rooms that arrive built, all with traditional stone heat. Only SaunaLife's kit here belongs indoors, so explore indoor sauna rooms for a home sauna.

Electric heater or wood stove?

SaunaLife packages are chosen on the page with a control and stones, so check what your sauna kit includes for everyday sauna use. Golden Designs includes Harvia, while Sweaty Yeti fits HUUM at its factory. Install electric sauna heaters as their manuals say, on their own circuit, wired by a licensed electrician. Five SaunaLife barrels and one beam cabin accept your own wood-burning stove. These wood burning sauna stoves need no wiring and use the chimney parts chosen on the page.

Meet the three makers

SaunaLife offers thermo-spruce rooms and selected solid spruce kits. Shaped aspen benches and a tinted glass door or glass front finish the room. Most kits offer natural or black finishes.

Golden Designs pairs Canadian red cedar interiors with Harvia heat. Choose an espresso cube or a cream barn style cabin. Each comes with lighting, speakers, a bucket and a scoop.

Sweaty Yeti builds finished, insulated rooms in Spanish Fork, Utah, for use all year. Cedar lines the interior. The crew sets the building on your level gravel or concrete pad, and your electrician connects power. Tell us about access to your yard when you call.

Your questions answered

What is considered a traditional sauna?

It is a sauna room where an electric or wood fired stove holds stones and heats the air. You ladle water over them for steam. Every SaunaLife and Sweaty Yeti room here uses this kind of heat, as do Golden Designs' stove rooms.

Is a traditional sauna better than an infrared sauna?

Your choice depends on the sauna experience you want for your wellness routine. A stove room gives you high heat and steam, while infrared warms you directly at a lower air temperature without steam. Hybrids offer both heat sources so you can choose how to relax.

How hot does a traditional sauna get?

Golden Designs reaches 170 to 185 degrees. Finnmark's hybrid stove side reaches 190 degrees. SaunaLife gives no temperature figure. Its sized heater package sets the heat, with lower seating offering less heat. Check the manual for your model.

Electric heater or wood burning stove?

An electric heater needs an electrician, and Golden Designs and Sweaty Yeti include theirs. Our sauna heater sizing guide helps you choose heater size. Wood needs no power but needs tending and a chimney. Five SaunaLife barrels and one cabin accept it.

Can I put a traditional sauna indoors?

Yes, SaunaLife's two person indoor kit uses ready made panels for a five foot corner. Finnmark's two hybrid rooms also bring a Harvia stove indoors. Choose a room intended for indoor use when planning your traditional sauna.
