You can get the look of an outdoor masonry fireplace without having brick laid on site. These eight outdoor gas fireplaces arrive whole, finished or ready for your chosen finish. Seven are cast in concrete reinforced with glass fibers, giving the look of stone at a fraction of the weight. One is a ready-to-finish frame. All use natural gas or propane, so you can enjoy warmth and ambiance without tending wood.

What you are buying: a masonry fireplace look

The American Fyre Designs fireplaces use cast concrete built for heat and weather. The Outdoor Plus ready-to-finish line includes a steel fireplace frame wrapped in fiber cement board. Neither needs a mason to build the fireplace itself, leaving less construction for your patio than laid brick.

Traditional, linear or ready to finish

Finished traditional pieces span 65 to 113 inches wide, with an arched firebox, firebrick liner, raised hearth and chimney hood. They come in seven colors, and some have wing walls that double as bench seating. Select a vented or vent-free firebox and Real Fyre gas logs.

Unfinished shells take your contractor’s stone, brick, tile or stucco finish. Cast linear walls are 72 inches wide and 16 inches deep, with a 48-inch linear burner creating a row of flames. The ready-to-finish frame spans 84 to 120 inches, with a built-in burner and see-through opening. Building your own fire feature instead? Browse fire pit and fireplace burners.

Frequently asked questions

What is a masonry fireplace?

Usually, this means a fireplace a mason builds on site from brick, block or stone, with a firebrick firebox and masonry chimney. These pieces instead arrive whole, cast in concrete or framed for finishing, to give you that solid, built-in look.

Do I need a mason to install one of these?

No. The finished cast pieces sit on a level pad and connect to gas. Unfinished shells and the ready-to-finish frame need a contractor to apply your stone, brick, tile or stucco. That is a finish job, rather than building a fireplace from scratch.

What is the difference between a masonry fireplace and a prefab fireplace?

A prefab fireplace is a factory-built steel firebox framed into a wall. A masonry fireplace is built on site from brick or stone. The traditional cast concrete pieces here offer another route: a whole unit already shaped with a hearth, arch and chimney hood.
