Finnmark Designs FD-5: a four person indoor hybrid sauna with infrared heaters and a Harvia stove
The Finnmark Designs FD-5 is a four person indoor hybrid sauna. Hybrid means it has both infrared heaters and a traditional Harvia stove with stones, so you can choose a gentle infrared warm-up, a hot steamy sauna, or both at once. Red light lamps in the ceiling add a warm glow, and you can change the color of the lighting. The outside is thermo-aspen, which is aspen baked in a kiln so it will not warp or rot. The inside is Western Canadian cedar, a smooth wood that resists mold. Two tiers of benches seat four, up high for more heat or down low for less. A full glass door lets in the light. It takes up about 75 by 64 inches of floor, so plan on a basement, a home gym, or a large spare room.
The infrared heaters warm the room to 170 degrees, and the stove takes it to 190. Ladle water over the stones when you want steam. It needs two 240 volt circuits, an outlet for the infrared side and a hard wired line for the stove, installed by a licensed electrician. Inside you get the wall mounted Harvia stove, a box of sauna stones, and a touchscreen control panel with Bluetooth and speakers that you can also run from your phone. A bucket and ladle are not included, so add them on this page along with a waterproof cover, a large vinyl seat cushion, a cedar backrest, a headrest, and wood wax or oil. Only need room for two? See the Finnmark Designs FD-4 hybrid sauna. The Finnmark Designs FD-5 ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ
What makes the FD-5 a hybrid sauna?
It combines three ways to sweat in one four-person cabin: UL-listed Spectrum Plus low-EMF infrared heaters, a medical-grade LED red-light panel at 650 nm with color chromotherapy, and a wall-mounted Harvia 4.5 kW traditional heater with stones for hot, steamy sessions. Use any one on its own or run them together. See the rest of our hybrid saunas for other sizes.
What electrical work is required?
Two 240 V feeds. The infrared heaters and lighting plug into a 240 V, 15 A outlet with a NEMA 6-15P plug and draw 3,150 W. The 4.5 kW Harvia heater is hard-wired on its own dedicated 240 V, 18.8 A circuit with a 20 A breaker, installed by a licensed electrician; the Trinity manual says to hand the electrician the Harvia installation manual and routes the heater wiring through the floor.
Is the traditional heater included, and what about stones?
Yes. The Includes tab lists the Harvia KIP Series 4.5 kW heater and one 44 lb box of Harvia AC3000 stones, and recommends ordering an additional box so you can select the best-fitting stones. A bucket and ladle are not in the box; a bamboo and aluminum bucket-and-ladle set in black or white and the SaunaLife SaunaZone bucket are offered in the Recommended Add-Ons selector on this page.
How hot does it get in infrared versus traditional mode?
The Specifications tab rates the infrared heaters to 170 F and the traditional heater to 190 F. For steam, the controller manual says to wait until the Harvia heater reaches its set temperature, then pour small amounts of water on the stones; if water collects on the floor you are using too much. Follow the Harvia heater’s own instructions and start beginners at a lower setting.
How many people fit, and how much room does it need?
It seats four on a two-tier bench, an upper level for more heat and a lower one for a milder session. The cabin is 75 in wide, 64 in deep and 84 in tall outside, with a 71 x 57.5 x 75 in interior; add the 3 inches of clearance the manual requires on top and all sides. An XL marine vinyl cushion and a cedar backrest are optional add-ons on this page.
Does it have WiFi or app control?
The Includes tab lists the V2 5 in LCD touchscreen controller with Bluetooth, and the V2 controller manual in the Manual tab covers pairing it with the Smart Life app over WiFi to turn the sauna on, set target temperature and session length, control lighting and schedule sessions on repeat days. The manual mentions a 90-minute built-in timer and a single Bluetooth connection at a time.
What warranty applies to the sauna and the Harvia heater?
The Trinity manual linked in the Manual tab lists lifetime coverage on the Spectrum Plus heaters, 10 years on carbon heaters, craftsmanship, electrical and audio components, 2 years residential on the Harvia heater, and 5 years for commercial use. It applies to the original purchaser, excludes broken glass, bulbs and weather damage, and requires the cover or a roof if the sauna is placed outdoors.
Can the infrared and traditional heaters run at the same time?
Yes. The Trinity XL is one of the few saunas on the market where the infrared panels and the traditional stone heater operate together in one session rather than one or the other. The Trinity manual explains the Spectrum Plus infrared heaters were manufactured specifically to withstand a traditional heater’s steam, which carbon panels cannot. Heat the room with the 4.5 kW Harvia heater, add steam, and keep the infrared on at the same time, or use either alone.
