You’re in the right place to choose a charcoal and gas grill for your patio. This collection holds eight hybrid grills, all built in the USA by American Made Grills. Muscle and Encore share the same fuel system, widths and included kit; their looks differ. Start with your space, choose an island or cart setup, then pick natural gas or propane when you order.

How a charcoal and gas grill works

Hybrid grills run on gas when the fuel trays are empty. Some people call a hybrid grill a combo grill or a dual fuel grill. Add lump charcoal, briquettes or wood to trays under the cooking grates; gas burners light the fuel in minutes. Wood chunks add smoky flavor. If you prefer solid fuel alone, compare our charcoal grills.

Which hybrid grill fits your space?

Choose your gas and charcoal grill around your space and how many people you cook for. The 36 inch width suits smaller patios. The 54 inch gives you more cooking space for parties and separate zones. Choose grill heads for outdoor kitchen islands or freestanding grills on carts.

Every hybrid grill is ordered for natural gas or propane. A propane and charcoal grill is simply the propane version.

Compare both looks on our American Made Grills hybrid page. Choose the Muscle line or the Encore line for the style you prefer. Both include a rotisserie kit, stainless steel griddle plate and infrared sear burner.

Questions we hear most

Can I cook with gas and charcoal at the same time?

Yes, you can fill the fuel trays on one side and keep the gas burners running on the other. Sear a steak over charcoal or wood on one side while something cooks slowly on the gas side.

Do I have to light the charcoal separately?

You don't need to light it separately because the gas burners under the trays light the charcoal or wood. There's no need for a chimney or lighter fluid. Leave the trays empty to cook on gas alone.

Can I just put charcoal in a regular gas grill?

A regular gas grill isn't built to hold burning charcoal above its burners. A charcoal and gas grill has stainless fuel trays and a hood made for it. If you only want gas, browse our natural gas and propane grills.

Is a hybrid grill a compromise?

You get a full gas grill first, with the infrared sear burner and rotisserie kit included. Charcoal and wood trays handle searing and smoke flavor. Gas holds steady low heat for low and slow cooking, and the 36 inch width suits a small patio.

Can one grill do gas, charcoal and smoking?

Yes, a charcoal and gas grill here shares one cooking surface and hood. Gas burners light charcoal or wood in stainless trays. Wood adds smoke flavor while gas holds steady low heat. A hybrid here is one grill, not two boxes bolted together, so there is no second half to fail.

Do I still need a separate charcoal grill?

No, one charcoal and gas grill covers both fuels on one cooking surface and in one footprint. Choose 36 or 54 inches wide, as a built-in grill or on a cart. Cook on gas on weeknights, then fill a tray with lump charcoal or hardwood for flavor.
