Primo Oval Junior All-In-One: a small oval charcoal grill with a rolling cradle
The Primo Oval Junior All-In-One is Primo’s smallest oval ceramic charcoal grill, sized for a couple or a small patio. Its 210 square inches of cooking space hold about eight burgers. The grill head weighs 100 pounds. A kamado is a charcoal grill with thick ceramic walls that hold heat and moisture, so one grill can sear, roast, bake, and smoke. Primo is the only ceramic grill made in the USA, built by Empire Comfort Systems in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
The oval shape lets you sear on one side and roast on the other. All-In-One means the grill arrives assembled on a rolling cradle with side tables, a grate lifter, and an ash tool. Included heat deflector plates and their racks shield food from coals for smoking. A cast iron firebox divider keeps coals on one side. You can choose a cypress table instead, but configuration swaps drop the starter accessories. An optional extension rack adds 150 square inches. Need more cooking room? FAQ
Is the Junior really portable?
The grill head weighs 100 pounds, so it is portable in the tailgate and camping sense rather than a carry-on. Primo’s brochure pitches the Junior for tailgates, float trips and picnics, and the On GO Portable Carrier choice in the package configuration selector swaps the cradle for Primo’s GO carrier; the brochure describes the GO cradle and base as making the Junior the largest portable ceramic grill available.
What does the All-In-One package include?
Out of the box you get the fully assembled Junior on a cradle with locking casters, fold-down side tables, a grate lifter, an ash tool, plus the oval-only extras: heat deflector plates, deflector plate racks and a cast iron firebox divider. If you switch the configuration to a cart, table or the GO carrier, the Includes tab warns that those starter accessories drop out of the order.
How much cooking space does it have?
The grid measures 13.5 by 18.5 inches for 210 square inches, and the optional extension rack adds 150 square inches for 360 total. Primo rates the Junior at three whole chickens, one small turkey, four steaks, eight burgers, four racks of ribs or six ears of corn, which is a lot of food for a grill this size.
Can I smoke on such a small grill?
Yes. Smoking is indirect cooking, and the deflector plates and racks that ship with this package sit under the grates to shield the food. The Quick Start Guide describes a 225 F cook: light a very small fire in one spot, close the dome after five minutes, and once it reaches about 200 F set the draft door to a 1 inch opening with only the daisy wheel holes open.
What base options can I choose?
The Change Pkg Configuration selector lists the cradle with sleeves that comes with the All-In-One, an unfinished cypress countertop table, the Primo GO portable carrier, a steel cart with a stainless side table, or the grill head alone. The price moves with your pick, and a fitted cover for that base appears as an optional add-on once it is selected.
How much clearance does the Junior need?
Primo’s spec sheet asks for at least 2 inches of clearance around the exterior of the ceramic and 10 inches behind the grill so the dome can open properly. Position the cradle on firm, level ground, lock the casters before lighting, and follow the guide and local codes for spacing from structures. Every size is listed in our Primo grill collection.
