An outdoor wood burning fire pit gives your gathering spot the crackle and smell of real wood. You bring the logs, tend the fire and let it burn down. Our 23 pits are all handmade in the USA by The Outdoor Plus: 17 open fire sculptures and six smokeless fire pits. Choose a wood fire pit for the campfire feel, then decide whether you want an eye-catching steel shape or less smoke drifting across your patio.

Two kinds of wood burning fire pits

Our The Outdoor Plus fire sculptures hold logs in open steel forms, from curved staves and vertical blades to stacked rings and an egg-shaped cage. Sizes run from 24 to 60 inches. Stainless steel stays bright; Corten weathering steel develops a rust-colored patina. Smokeless designs use double-walled bodies with air holes near the base to burn off smoke before it leaves. Choose a cube, drum or low disc, or a concrete body with a steel insert.

Compare shapes, materials and fuels

Explore metal fire pits in steel and copper across wood and gas designs. A hand-hammered copper fire pit is a gas choice. Browse concrete fire pits for mostly gas designs plus the smokeless options. The concrete smokeless bodies come in 18 colors. Narrow your search to a round fire pit or square fire pit. Sculptures can also be ordered for gas using natural gas or propane.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of wood should you use in a fire pit, and what should you never burn?

Use dry, seasoned hardwood for the hottest, cleanest burn with fewer sparks. Pine sparks more. Never burn treated or painted lumber, plywood, pallets, driftwood or trash; they release fumes and gum up the pit. Smokeless pits need dry wood, too.

Should I get a gas or wood burning fire pit?

Choose a wood burning fire pit for crackle, smell and a hotter fire, with firewood, tending and cleanup. A gas fire pit lights by match or button, produces no smoke or ash, and shuts off instantly. Fire sculptures can be ordered either way.

Are smokeless fire pits worth it?

Choose a smokeless fire pit if you dislike chasing smoke around the patio. You get much less smoke, less ash and easier lighting with a fire that stays lit. Wood burns faster, though, and less heat comes out sideways.
