DuraVent PelletVent Pro Wall Thimble Air Intake Kit: outside air and exhaust share one wall opening
The DuraVent PelletVent Pro Wall Thimble Air Intake Kit is a sleeve that carries pellet stove vent through an outside wall. An inlet in one corner supplies outside air for the stove’s fire through that same opening. You won’t need a second hole. PelletVent Pro is DuraVent’s double wall pellet stove vent: a corrosion resistant stainless steel inner pipe inside a galvalume outer pipe, sold in 3 and 4 inch sizes. The sleeve fits walls 4 to 8 inches thick and keeps the vent 1 inch from anything that can burn.
The kit includes 10 feet of flexible hose, clamps, and an insulation ring to block drafts around the pipe. Choose a 3 inch sleeve with 2 inch hose, or a 4 inch sleeve with 2 or 3 inch hose. Match the sleeve to your vent and the hose to your stove’s air connection. Only metal hose connects to the stove, never plastic. Prefer a separate screened air opening? See the DuraVent PelletVent Pro 2 Inch Fresh Air Intake Kit. The DuraVent PelletVent Pro Wall Thimble Air Intake Kit ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

Instructions
Typical Installation
Refer to our Typical Venting Installation drawings to select the appropriate component parts for your installation.
- The inner pipe diameter should match the outlet size of the appliance. For installations that require 4″ vent and the appliance has a 3″ outlet, use an Increaser Adapter 3″-4″.
- Check the appliance manufacturer’s installation instructions to confirm which types of vent configurations are permitted (i.e. horizontal, vertical, chimney reline, etc.). Also, check for any venting restrictions such as maximum horizontal run, minimum and maximum vertical rise, maximum offset, etc.
- Be fire safe! Maintain the minimum clearances (air-space) between the vent pipe and nearby combustibles, as specified in the appliance manufacturer’s installation instructions. Use proper support and bracing. Follow local building codes and have your venting system inspected.

Planning Your Installation:
| 1 |
Refer to the Typical PelletVent Pro Installations diagram, on the opposite page, to be familiar with some of the standard PelletVent Pro installations and the required component parts. |
| 2 |
For a horizontal termination, you will need a Wall Thimble and a Horizontal Cap. The cap must be installed with a 6″ clearance to the outside wall (refer to appliance manufacturer’s installation instructions for other clearances). |
| 3 |
For a vertical termination, you will need a Cathedral Ceiling Support Box or Flat Ceiling Support, Attic Insulation Shield (if passing through an attic), Flashing, Storm Collar, and Vertical Cap. |
| 4 |
Determine the length of PelletVent Pro pipe required. For a vertical termination, measure the pitch of the roof and select the proper flashing. The required minimum height above the roof is 12″. |
| 5 |
Pellet stove inserts in masonry fireplaces will require a flex pipe to snake the vent past the smoke shelf. For transition from PelletVent Pro to an existing DuraPlus, DuraPlus HTC, or DuraTech Chimney, a Chimney Adapter is available. |
| 6 |
For vertical rise of PelletVent Pro on the outside of the house, Wall Straps should be used at 4′ intervals to provide proper support. |
| 7 |
Important! Check to be sure that the appliance and the venting system are in compliance with all minimum clearance to combustible requirements. |
The following design recommendations are a general guideline to assist in the design and selection of venting components for your installation. Always follow Duravent Installation instructions before installing your chimney system (found with the cap or support box).
- Size the vent to meet the appliance manufacturer’s specifications.
- Avoid long runs and excessive use of elbows. Refer to the appliance manufacturer for minimum rise and maximum run configurations for the venting system.
- Use an Appliance Adapter to ensure a proper connection to appliance. Seal adapter to appliance with high temperature sealant.
- Use a Single Tee with Clean-Out Tee Cap to facilitate easy cleaning. It is recommended to use a tee off the back of an appliance.
- In the United States and Canada, maintain the minimum 1″ clearance (air space) from vent pipe to combustibles. Use proper support and bracing. Follow local building codes and have your venting system inspected. Be fire safe!

FAQ
What does the Wall Thimble Air Intake Kit do?
It brings outside combustion air to the pellet stove through the existing wall thimble, so you do not cut a second hole in the wall. The kit includes an insulation ring that reduces air infiltration where the pipe passes through the thimble, a 10-foot length of 2-inch flex hose and clamps. It is patented and can be used in the US and Canada.
Which size option do I need?
Choose the vent size first: 3-inch for a 3-inch PelletVent Pro thimble, or 4-inch for a 4-inch thimble. The 4-inch kit is listed with either 2-inch or 3-inch flex, so match the flex to the stove’s air-intake collar. All three versions are on the selector above; the stove manual gives the collar size.
How is this different from the Fresh Air Intake Kit?
The Fresh Air Intake Kit terminates the intake at its own screened opening anywhere the flex reaches; this kit uses the wall thimble that the exhaust already passes through. Choose this one to avoid a second penetration, the other when the intake needs to be somewhere else. Both give the stove outside air rather than room air.
Does using this kit change the termination clearances?
It can. DuraVent’s instructions say that with the Wall Thimble Air Intake Kit the installation may be considered direct vent under NFPA 211, which allows the exit terminal 6, 9 or 12 inches from a building opening depending on the appliance input, with the terminal and intake at least 12 inches above grade. Check with your local building official first.
Does the thimble still need sealing?
Yes. Caulk the vent pipe to the thimble with 500 F RTV silicone as the PelletVent Pro FAQ requires, and the insulation ring in this kit closes the gap around the pipe against drafts. Keep 1 inch of air space between the vent and combustibles; the thimble’s framed opening is 7-1/2 by 7-1/2 inches for the standard thimble.
Is outside combustion air required for a pellet stove?
Not by this kit, but many stove manuals and some codes require it, especially in tight or manufactured homes, and it stops the stove competing with the house for air. Read the stove manual first. The exhaust side still needs its own PelletVent Pro pipe, thimble and cap; this kit only handles the intake.
