Is DuraVent PelletVent right for your run?

This original double-wall line has a stainless steel inner wall and a galvalume outer wall. It is a venting system for stoves and inserts that burn wood pellets or biofuel. Keep its required 1 inch clearance to combustibles empty. Choose matching parts for an existing run because the lines are not interchangeable. For a new stove, consider DuraVent PelletVent Pro, or compare both lines under pellet stove pipe.

Choose the pieces for your route

Straight lengths are 6, 12, 24, 36 or 60 inches, while the adjustable length adds 3 to 10 inches. The appliance adapter needs high temperature sealant at the stove outlet and at least one screw. A tee with a clean-out cap behind the stove gives you brushing access. The horizontal kit provides pipe, an adapter, tee, elbow, wall thimble, strap and outdoor cap for a through the wall installation. The outdoor cap is the horizontal termination.

A roof route needs a support box, firestop spacers, an attic insulation shield, flashing, a storm collar and a vertical cap. The 60 inch flex bends around the smoke shelf for a pellet insert in a masonry fireplace, only inside an inspected and swept masonry chimney. The chimney adapter connects at the ceiling support box to an inspected and swept existing DuraTech chimney or DuraPlus chimney using the required DVL/DuraBlack adapter. If your appliance calls for exhaust and outside air in one pipe, look at CVS concentric venting instead.

Keep the vent clean

Check the vent monthly during the heating season. Clean it at least yearly with a plastic or flexible steel brush. Avoid stiff brushes that scratch the stainless steel, and keep the route short with few turns.

Your venting questions

What is the difference between PelletVent and PelletVent Pro?

The original line uses twist-lock joints with sealant where the stove maker requires it. PelletVent Pro has a more corrosion resistant stainless inner pipe, gasketed joints and swivel tees and elbows. Use matching original-line parts to extend an existing run.

Is DuraVent compatible with PelletVent?

This is DuraVent's own line, but its parts do not interchange with PelletVent Pro. Match the line and diameter rather than the brand alone. The designated chimney adapter allows connections to existing DuraTech, DuraPlus or DuraChimney systems, not another maker's pipe.

Is it a good idea to vent a pellet stove through the roof?

Yes, both roof and wall routes can work within the stove maker's limits. DuraVent favors short indoor runs with few turns because long, cold runs collect moisture. Use the required roof supports, shields, flashing and vertical cap for PelletVent.

Why does pellet vent leak smoke when the stove starts?

Before draft is established, smoke can escape through an adjustable section not fully seated or another maker's pipe. Lock sections with arrows up, and follow the stove maker's sealant instructions. Check monthly, brush yearly and keep the cap clear. If PelletVent still smokes, stop and call a pellet stove professional.
