Why a condensing appliance needs plastic vent

PolyPro is a polypropylene vent engineered for venting high-efficiency condensing boilers, warm air furnaces and high-efficiency water heaters. Acidic condensate cannot corrode this plastic vent pipe, which handles hotter exhaust than PVC or CPVC. For a condensing boiler vent or other approved gas appliance, follow its maker's manual and use this line's parts and specified adapters. Our commercial venting range also includes DuraVent FasNSeal, a stainless steel option for hotter, pressurized exhaust. DuraVent B vent serves natural draft gas appliances instead.

What your vent run needs

Use gray single-wall pipe indoors and black sun resistant pipe outside. Gasketed joints need clamps, and square-cut straight pipe needs a locking band clamp where cutting removes the tab. Screws must never pierce the pipe. Elbows, tees and appliance adapters shape the run, while drains and traps form the condensation management system as the manual directs. The appliance maker's instructions set the clearance to combustibles.

Wall straps carry the weight, and firestops go at floor and ceiling crossings. Horizontal runs slope back toward the appliance without dips, and fire rated crossings need approved firestopping. Choose single, twin or concentric terminations, adding roof flashing and a storm collar for roof exits. The concentric vent system components share one opening, carrying exhaust inside and combustion air around it.

Reusing an old chimney or B vent

Choose PolyPro Flex from our chimney liner range when your approved condensing appliance will use a sound chimney as a sleeve. The lining kit includes adapters and supports, but the liner is its own listing. Spacers center the liner every 6 feet.

B vent retrofit adapters let old metal vent serve as a sleeve for one appliance. Exhaust flex stays within 45 degrees of vertical, never horizontal. Reline hangers and upper plates support multiple liners in one chimney. For outside air rather than exhaust, the DuraFlex Aluminum range includes 2 inch air intake tubing.

Your venting questions

What is PolyPro?

It is DuraVent's polypropylene vent for high efficiency condensing gas boilers, furnaces and water heaters. The plastic resists acidic condensate from their cool, wet exhaust. Use it only for condensing gas appliances approved for this vent by their maker.

Why polypropylene instead of PVC?

Polypropylene handles hotter exhaust than PVC or CPVC and resists acidic condensate. The venting system uses gasketed joints, clamps, drains and matched terminations. Adapters join a PVC outlet on the appliance to the vent. The rest of the run stays within this line rather than mixing pipe from other systems.

Can PolyPro Flex go inside an old B vent or chimney?

Yes, retrofit adapters at both ends let old B vent sleeve one appliance's liner, with DuraVent approval in Canada or appliance-maker approval in the USA. Sound brick chimneys use the lining kit, keeping flex within 45 degrees of vertical. Confirm your appliance accepts DuraVent PolyPro.
