DuraVent DuraChimney II 8 inch 30 Degree Elbow Kit: a bigger sidestep around rafters and joists
The DuraVent DuraChimney II 8 inch 30 Degree Elbow Kit is a pair of chimney bends with a support strap. This steeper kit takes the chimney farther sideways around an obstruction before returning it to vertical. Both elbows have a fixed 30 degree angle, the sharpest turn DuraChimney II permits. They cannot be combined into a steeper bend. The kit fits only 8 inch DuraChimney II pipe. Each pipe length between the elbows needs its own strap to hold it to the house framing, so the included strap may not be enough.
DuraChimney II is DuraVent’s air cooled chimney, a double wall pipe in 8 to 16 inch sizes for fireplaces that burn wood, oil, coal, or gas. The 8 inch parts form a separate family with twist lock joints. Plan for extra chimney height when using elbows. Planning Your Installation:
The following recommendations are a general guideline to assist in the layout and selection of the chimney components needed for your installation. Always follow Duravent Installation instructions enclosed with the cap or support box before installing your chimney system. Installation instructions can be viewed online at www. duravent.com, under catalogs and instructions.
- Measure the diameter of the fireplace flue outlet. An improperly sized chimney results in poor draft and excessive creosote formation.
- Select the chimney with the same size diameter as the fireplace flue outlet. Refer to the chimney sizing chart in the back of this catalog for masonry fireplaces.
- Install the chimney in an enclosed chase.
- If possible, avoid offsets. A straight vertical installation is more efficient and less likely to develop creosote. If an offset is required to avoid rafters or other obstructions, measure the horizontal distance required and the vertical height available. Both 15° and 30° elbows are available. Elbows greater than 30° are not allowed in the United States. Two offset (four elbows) in a single installation is permitted. Refer to the offset chart in the back section of this catalog. At least one Elbow Strap is required. Elbow Straps ensure adequate support.
- Determine the minimum chimney height above the roof line. Building codes require a minimum of 3′ above the roof penetration and at least 2′ higher than any portion of a building within 10′. See figure 1. The termination cap is installed above that point.
- Chase Top Flashing is available. A pitched roof flashing can be locally made, if required. A storm collar is required for all installations using a flashing.
- Determine the total length of chimney required for the installation. To calculate the installed per length of 10″-16″ DuraChimney II pipe, subtract 1″ per joint. Minimum recommended chimney height, at sea level of straight vertical chimney, is 10′ to 15′ above the fireplace outlet. Higher elevations, or the use of elbows, will require approximately 30% to 60% more height to provide for an adequate draft.

- Be fire safe. Maintain at least 2″ clearance to combustibles. Follow local building codes and have your chimney inspected by a certified professional.

What comes in the 30-degree Elbow Kit for 8-inch DuraChimney II?
Two 30-degree elbows and one elbow strap for 8-inch DuraChimney II. One elbow turns the chimney out around the obstruction and the second brings it back to vertical, while the strap fastens the offset to the framing so the elbows do not carry the weight of the chimney above. The angle is fixed; DuraChimney II elbows are not adjustable.
Is 30 degrees the largest offset allowed?
Yes. UL 103 limits chimney offsets in the United States to 30 degrees, and DuraVent permits at most two offsets (four elbows) in one DuraChimney II installation. You cannot stack elbows to make a 45 or 60 degree turn. The offset chart in the DuraChimney II catalog lists the horizontal reach for 30 degree pairs with different pipe lengths between them.
How does an offset affect draft and chimney height?
Every offset restricts the natural draft, so DuraVent recommends 30 to 60 percent more chimney height than the 10 to 15 foot minimum above the fireplace outlet when elbows are used, and advises a straight vertical run wherever possible. A cold or offset chimney also forms more creosote, so plan on annual inspection and cleaning.
How is the offset supported?
Fasten the elbow strap from the kit around the pipe at the offset and screw it to the framing; DuraVent requires at least one strap per offset. Continue the normal supports above and below: a Wall Strap every 8 feet and a Supplementary Support where the total height exceeds 50 feet. Sections twist-lock, so no screws are normally needed at the elbows.
Will these elbows fit other DuraVent chimneys?
No. They are made for 8-inch DuraChimney II only; DuraVent does not allow DuraChimney II, DuraTech and DuraPlus components to be mixed. The 8-inch DuraChimney II line has its own instructions (L183) and the same 2-inch clearance to combustibles applies through the offset; 15-degree pairs are sold as a separate kit.

A sauna turns your garden into a spa oasis. We debated it for a while, but after renovating our house, we pulled the trigger and bought a sauna from Norse Steam and Maya. We purchased the 3-person sauna for our outdoor garden. We chose the cube sauna for the aesthetic and could not be happier.
I assembled by myself except for the 2 large panels (requires a few people). Instructions were good - took me two partial Saturdays to complete and a few hours to unpack and organize in advance of assembly. Had my elec. add a NEMA enclosure on the back for the controller and power for lights and a 2nd panel for the wireless control.

Norse Steam, and specifically Maya, were extremely helpful as I was making the decision for our Sauna. I was able to get all of the necessary details to make a decision as construction was happening in my backyard to make space for it.
We absolutely love the CL7G. It is extremely comfortable for 6 people (can fit more less comfortably). The Thermory Spruce and Aspen in the interior smells great. The lighting is lovely. We paired the CL7G with the Harvia Spirit 10.5kw.

Smoking Hot Tub!
I got the Norse Steam SaunaLife wood-fired hot tub, the S4N model, and its been seriously great. It heats up quicker than I expected, usually around an hour and a half, and once its hot, it stays that way for a good long while. The wood-fired system is simple to use, and honestly kind of fun.
The tub itself feels solid and well put together. The thermo-spruce exterior looks beautiful in person, and the fiberglass interior is smooth, deep, and easy to clean. Its the kind of setup that just works without a bunch of fuss, which I really appreciate.
Also, the team at Norse Steam was genuinely great to work with. Super helpful, quick to respond, and made the process really easy from start to finish. It felt like they actually cared that I was happy with it. The tub has totally become a go-to way to unwind, and I wouldnt change a thing.

Great Sauna & Purchase Experience
Great experience purchasing Finnmark FD-2 from Norse Steam. Good communication and easy to assemble. Temperature increases quickly (30 minutes or less to 140) and maintains well. So far this has been a great purchase.

Great sauna and great customer service
We purchased the Finnmark SD-1 sauna. Maya was extremely helpful with the purchase. We had an issue with the sauna not reaching the maximum temperature, and Maya connected us with the appropriate technician that explained how to correct the issue. The sauna now heats to the maximum temperature (170 degrees) in less than an hour, and it is a great unit. We are very happy with it, and we would definitely purchase from NorseSteam if we needed any other items.
