DuraVent DuraChimney II 8 inch 15 Degree Elbow Kit: a small sideways step around a rafter or joist
The DuraVent DuraChimney II 8 inch 15 Degree Elbow Kit is a pair of angled chimney fittings with a support strap. The two elbows move the chimney sideways around a rafter or joist, then point it straight up again. This sideways section is called an offset. Both elbows have a fixed 15 degree bend, so you cannot adjust their angle. Each pipe length in the offset needs a strap of its own. The kit includes one strap, so a longer offset with more pipe sections needs extra straps. A chimney can have no more than two offsets.
This kit fits only the 8 inch DuraChimney II family, which uses twist lock joints. DuraChimney II is DuraVent’s air cooled chimney, a double wall pipe in 8 to 16 inch sizes for fireplaces that burn wood, oil, coal, or gas. Its parts cannot be modified or combined with DuraTech, DuraPlus, or another brand’s chimney. Need a bigger sideways step? See the DuraVent DuraChimney II 8 inch 30 Degree Elbow Kit. The DuraVent DuraChimney II 8 inch 15 Degree Elbow Kit ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ
What is in the 15-degree Elbow Kit for 8-inch DuraChimney II?
Two 15-degree elbows and one elbow strap, sized for 8-inch DuraChimney II only. The pair lets the chimney step sideways around a rafter, ridgepole or joist and then return to vertical; the strap carries the weight of the pipe above the offset so the elbows are not loaded. The elbows are fixed at 15 degrees and are not adjustable.
When should I choose the 15-degree kit instead of the 30-degree one?
Use 15 degrees when the obstruction only needs a small sideways step; it keeps the flue closer to vertical, which drafts better and collects less creosote. The 30-degree kit reaches further per foot of rise. The DuraChimney II offset chart in the catalog shows how much horizontal reach each angle gives for a given length of pipe between the elbows.
How many offsets can an 8-inch DuraChimney II have?
A maximum of two offsets, four elbows in total, and nothing steeper than 30 degrees; that is a UL 103 limit in the United States. Each offset needs at least one elbow strap, so buy a second kit or a strap for a second offset. DuraVent advises a straight vertical run wherever possible and roughly 30 to 60 percent more chimney height when elbows are used.
Are these elbows compatible with DuraTech or DuraPlus?
No. They fit the 8-inch DuraChimney II air-cooled system only, and DuraVent does not allow its chimney lines to be mixed. The elbows twist-lock onto the chimney sections like the straight pipe, so screws are not normally required, and the 2-inch clearance to combustibles applies through the offset.
Do I still need a firestop at an offset in a ceiling?
Yes. Building code and DuraVent’s instructions require a firestop at every floor or ceiling the chimney passes, offset or not, and an attic insulation shield where it crosses an attic. Plan the offset so the elbows sit clear of the framing and the straight sections pass through the firestop opening with 2 inches of air space all round.
