DuraVent PelletVent Pro Horizontal Kit: three fittings for venting straight through the wall
The DuraVent PelletVent Pro Horizontal Kit is a set of fittings for venting a pellet stove through the wall behind it. You get a round outside cap, a wall thimble (the sleeve through the wall), and an adapter connecting the vent to the stove. Buy the pipe separately to suit your wall. It must reach at least 6 inches beyond the outside wall before the cap goes on, pointing down. PelletVent Pro is DuraVent’s double wall pellet stove vent: a corrosion resistant stainless steel inner pipe inside a galvalume outer pipe, sold in 3 and 4 inch sizes.
Choose a 3 inch or 4 inch kit. The larger kit includes a black adapter that connects to a 3 inch stove outlet. The wall sleeve adjusts to walls 4 to 8 inches thick and keeps the pipe 1 inch from combustible materials. DuraVent recommends a tee with a removable cleaning cap behind the stove for brush access. Inspect the vent monthly during heating season and clean yearly with a plastic or flexible steel brush. Need the pipe? Add DuraVent PelletVent Pro Straight Length Pipe. The DuraVent PelletVent Pro Horizontal Kit ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

Instructions
Typical Installation
Refer to our Typical Venting Installation drawings to select the appropriate component parts for your installation.
- The inner pipe diameter should match the outlet size of the appliance. For installations that require 4″ vent and the appliance has a 3″ outlet, use an Increaser Adapter 3″-4″.
- Check the appliance manufacturer’s installation instructions to confirm which types of vent configurations are permitted (i.e. horizontal, vertical, chimney reline, etc.). Also, check for any venting restrictions such as maximum horizontal run, minimum and maximum vertical rise, maximum offset, etc.
- Be fire safe! Maintain the minimum clearances (air-space) between the vent pipe and nearby combustibles, as specified in the appliance manufacturer’s installation instructions. Use proper support and bracing. Follow local building codes and have your venting system inspected.

Planning Your Installation:
| 1 |
Refer to the Typical PelletVent Pro Installations diagram, on the opposite page, to be familiar with some of the standard PelletVent Pro installations and the required component parts. |
| 2 |
For a horizontal termination, you will need a Wall Thimble and a Horizontal Cap. The cap must be installed with a 6″ clearance to the outside wall (refer to appliance manufacturer’s installation instructions for other clearances). |
| 3 |
For a vertical termination, you will need a Cathedral Ceiling Support Box or Flat Ceiling Support, Attic Insulation Shield (if passing through an attic), Flashing, Storm Collar, and Vertical Cap. |
| 4 |
Determine the length of PelletVent Pro pipe required. For a vertical termination, measure the pitch of the roof and select the proper flashing. The required minimum height above the roof is 12″. |
| 5 |
Pellet stove inserts in masonry fireplaces will require a flex pipe to snake the vent past the smoke shelf. For transition from PelletVent Pro to an existing DuraPlus, DuraPlus HTC, or DuraTech Chimney, a Chimney Adapter is available. |
| 6 |
For vertical rise of PelletVent Pro on the outside of the house, Wall Straps should be used at 4′ intervals to provide proper support. |
| 7 |
Important! Check to be sure that the appliance and the venting system are in compliance with all minimum clearance to combustible requirements. |
The following design recommendations are a general guideline to assist in the design and selection of venting components for your installation. Always follow Duravent Installation instructions before installing your chimney system (found with the cap or support box).
- Size the vent to meet the appliance manufacturer’s specifications.
- Avoid long runs and excessive use of elbows. Refer to the appliance manufacturer for minimum rise and maximum run configurations for the venting system.
- Use an Appliance Adapter to ensure a proper connection to appliance. Seal adapter to appliance with high temperature sealant.
- Use a Single Tee with Clean-Out Tee Cap to facilitate easy cleaning. It is recommended to use a tee off the back of an appliance.
- In the United States and Canada, maintain the minimum 1″ clearance (air space) from vent pipe to combustibles. Use proper support and bracing. Follow local building codes and have your venting system inspected. Be fire safe!

FAQ
What is in the PelletVent Pro Horizontal Kit, and what else do I need?
The 3PVP-KHA kit contains the Horizontal Cap, the Wall Thimble and the Appliance Adapter; the 4-inch version adds a 3-to-4-inch adapter/increaser painted black. Pipe lengths are not included, so add the PelletVent Pro straight sections for the run through the wall. DuraVent also recommends a Tee with Clean-Out Cap off the back of the stove for easy cleaning, sold separately.
Should I order the 3-inch or 4-inch kit?
Match your stove’s flue outlet and follow the stove manual. Most pellet stoves use 3 inch, but many manufacturers require 4 inch once the run gets long or has several elbows. Choose the size on the selector above; the 4-inch kit includes the increaser so it still fits a 3-inch outlet. Never use a vent with an inside diameter smaller than the appliance outlet.
How do I vent a pellet stove straight out through the wall with this kit?
Frame a 7-1/2 by 7-1/2 inch opening, set the Wall Thimble, and run the pipe from the Appliance Adapter through the thimble so it extends at least 6 inches beyond the exterior wall once the cap is on. The cap must point downward so rain and snow stay out. Check your stove manual first: it sets whether a horizontal termination is allowed and the minimum rise and maximum run.
How far must the cap be from windows and doors?
The manual applies NFPA 211: the terminal must be at least 4 feet below, 4 feet beside or 1 foot above any door, window or gravity air inlet; 3 feet above a forced-air inlet within 10 feet; 2 feet from an adjacent building; and 12 inches above grade. Distances change if you add the Wall Thimble Air Intake Kit, so confirm with your local building official.
Does PelletVent Pro need sealant or screws at the joints?
The pipe sections twist-lock with an internal O-ring gasket, so no sealant or screws are required on the joints. High-temperature RTV silicone (500 F) is required where the Appliance Adapter meets the stove outlet and where the pipe passes through the Wall Thimble. If you add screws, use 1/4-inch sheet metal screws and never penetrate the inner wall.
What clearance to combustibles does this vent need?
PelletVent Pro is listed for 1 inch of air space to combustibles in the USA and Canada for pellet, corn, biofuel and oil appliances. Never pack that gap with insulation other than the mineral-wool type DuraVent approves, and never use single-wall pipe or Type B gas vent on a freestanding pellet stove. The stove manual’s own clearances still apply.
Can I use this kit if I burn corn or other biofuels?
PelletVent Pro is a multi-fuel vent rated for wood pellets, corn, other biofuels and oil, with a 444 stainless inner wall rated for continuous flue temperatures up to 570 F. One catch for corn: the instructions require a Round Horizontal Cap and a stainless outer wall on any pipe exposed between the wall and the cap, so confirm the cap style before ordering this kit.
