How a fire pit burner kit works

Build your own fire pit enclosure from block, stone, stucco, pavers or tile, or work with a mason. The burner bolts into the pan beneath lava rock or fire glass. A licensed gas fitter connects it. See our DIY propane build guide.

Pan styles and burner shapes

A flat pan rests on a ledge. A drop-in pan hangs from its lip. A raised lip shows a stainless border. Lipless sits flush. Burner shapes include linear, H, switchback, round, square, lotus and triple S. You can choose each shape as a standard drilled-tube burner or as a bullet burner. The bullet burner's upright ports in stainless steel or brass give a taller, fuller flame than a drilled tube. Rectangular pans span 24 to 96 inches long, round pans 12 to 60 inches across, and square pans 12 to 60 inches. Prefer something finished? Browse rectangular fire pits or fire pit tables.

Natural gas or propane and how it lights

Order a natural gas fire pit burner for a house gas line or a propane fire pit burner for a propane tank. If you searched for a fire pit kit or a gas fire pit insert, this pan-and-burner set is the part you want. If you would rather not build, compare our finished natural gas pits, propane pits or the full range of gas pits. Kits are match lit. An electronic ignition system with a push button and a key valve are options.

FAQ

What size fire pit burner do I need?

Measure the enclosure’s inside width, length and depth, rather than choosing by heat. The burner is already matched to its pan, so choose the pan to suit the opening. A flat pan needs a ledge. A drop-in hangs from its lip. A long trough takes a linear or H kit a few inches shorter than the opening.

Do I need a burner pan, and which kind?

Yes. Every kit includes a pan to support the burner and hold lava rock or fire glass. Flat pans rest on ledges. Drop-in pans hang from a lip. A raised lip shows metal, while a lipless pan sits flush.

Can I use a fire pit burner with natural gas or propane?

Choose either fuel when you order, because the two kits are built differently. Natural gas needs a house gas line run by a licensed gas fitter. Propane uses a tank in or beside the enclosure. Decide which you’ll use before ordering.
