DuraVent DuraChimney II 8 inch Kit Builder: choose a whole fireplace chimney on one page
The DuraVent DuraChimney II 8 inch Kit Builder is a page for choosing chimney parts from the fireplace top to above the roof. You put together an 8 inch chimney here rather than shopping for each piece separately. There is no base charge. The price is the sum of your selections. DuraChimney II is DuraVent’s air cooled chimney, a double wall pipe in 8 to 16 inch sizes for fireplaces that burn wood, oil, coal, or gas. Match the diameter to your fireplace’s chimney outlet, and confirm that the fireplace maker approves DuraChimney II.
Start by choosing at least one pipe section and its quantity. Lengths are 12, 18, 24, 36, and 48 inches. The 8 inch family uses twist lock joints, and only this diameter offers the 24 inch length. For a sideways shift, add a 15 or 30 degree elbow kit with two elbows and a support strap. Then select the supports, shields, roof coverings, and cap your route needs under Build Your Chimney Kit. These parts are made to order and cannot be returned. Need a larger diameter? See the DuraVent DuraChimney II 10 inch Kit Builder. The DuraVent DuraChimney II 8 inch Kit Builder ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ
How does the 8-inch DuraChimney II Customize your Kit listing work?
The base listing carries no price; you build the chimney on the page. The Length of Chimney Pipe row is required, so pick at least one 12, 18, 24, 36 or 48 inch section and the quantities you need, then add elbow kits and the components from the Build Your Chimney Kit row: anchor plate, firestop, shields, flashing, storm collar and cap. Each part shows its price on the selector.
Which fireplaces use 8-inch DuraChimney II?
DuraChimney II is a double-wall, air-cooled chimney for fireplaces that burn wood, oil, coal or gas. The 8-inch size has its own instructions (L183) and must match the fireplace’s flue collar; the fireplace manual lists the chimneys it is approved with, so confirm DuraChimney II is named there before ordering. It is listed to UL 103 for continuous 1000 F flue gases.
What parts make up a straight through-the-roof run?
Start with an Anchor Plate on the fireplace top, then chimney sections, a Firestop at every floor and ceiling the chimney passes, an Attic Insulation Shield through an attic, a Roof Radiation Shield where it exits the chase, and at the top either a Chase Top Flashing or the 0/12-6/12 or 6/12-12/12 roof flashing, plus the Storm Collar and the DCA Vertical Chimney Cap. Add a Wall Strap every 8 feet.
How tall does the chimney have to be?
Code requires the cap at least 3 feet above the roof penetration and 2 feet above any part of the building within 10 feet, and DuraVent recommends a minimum of 10 to 15 feet of straight chimney above the fireplace outlet, 30 to 60 percent more if elbows are used. Above 50 feet a Supplementary Support is required, each carrying 25 feet; a Stabilizer keeps a tall run centered in the chase.
Can I offset around rafters with this chimney?
Yes, with the 15 or 30 degree Elbow Kit rows on the page; each kit has two elbows and an elbow strap, and a pair is needed to bring the chimney back to vertical. No more than two offsets (four elbows) are allowed and nothing steeper than 30 degrees. Elbows are not adjustable, and the offset chart in the DuraChimney II catalog gives the reach for each angle.
Does DuraChimney II need a chase, and how are joints secured?
DuraVent designs it to run inside an enclosed chase with 2 inches of air space to combustibles; the Chase Top Flashing needs a 1/2-inch air gap for ventilation. Sections twist-lock onto the Anchor Plate and each other, so screws are not normally required, and the Anchor Plate mounts to the fireplace top with four sheet metal screws. Other DuraChimney II sizes have their own configurators.
