DuraVent DirectVent Pro Horizontal Vent Kit for DV Insert: vent through the chimney’s back wall instead of its top
The DuraVent DirectVent Pro Horizontal Vent Kit for DV Insert is a venting kit for a gas insert in a masonry fireplace. It takes the vent out through the chimney’s back wall rather than up to the roof. DirectVent Pro is DuraVent’s pipe inside a pipe vent for direct vent gas fireplaces and stoves: exhaust goes out through the inner pipe and outside air comes in through the outer pipe. This kit uses two separate aluminum flex liners instead, one for exhaust and one for incoming air. It includes two 10 foot liners, a wall cap, and hardware to attach the liners.
Choose two 3 inch liners or one 3 inch and one 4 inch liner to match your insert’s connections. The insert maker must approve horizontal venting. Each liner stretches to fit, but never beyond 10 feet. The horizontal route must stay level or rise toward the cap, never slope down. The unused chimney top must be watertight. Going up the chimney instead? See the DuraVent DirectVent Pro Co-Linear Kit with Flex for chimney venting. The DuraVent DirectVent Pro Horizontal Vent Kit for DV Insert ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ
What is the Horizontal Vent Kit for DV Inserts?
A kit for venting an approved direct vent insert horizontally out through the back of a suitable masonry chimney rather than up the flue. It includes the co-linear termination, two 10-foot aluminum flex lengths and the hardware to attach the flex. Choose 3 and 3 inch or 3 and 4 inch flex on the selector to match the insert’s exhaust and intake collars.
When would I vent an insert out the back of the chimney?
When the chimney above is unusable or too tall to line economically and the insert manufacturer permits a horizontal termination; DuraVent’s supplement for this kit applies to approved appliances only. The termination sits on the rear face of the chimney at the height the insert manual allows, with the flex making the turn inside.
How far can the flex be stretched?
Each flex length can be stretched to a maximum of 10 feet; DuraVent warns not to stretch it further. The flex runs from the insert collars, up and out through the opening in the chimney back, to the termination, and is secured with the clamps and hardware supplied. Keep it free of sags and sharp kinks.
Does the kit need sealing?
Yes. DuraVent’s instructions have the termination sealed to the masonry with silicone sealant to keep water out, and the flex attachments made with the supplied hardware. The top of the old flue should be closed off as the supplement describes so the chimney is not left open above the insert.
Is it approved for my appliance?
Only for inserts whose manual lists DuraVent’s horizontal co-linear termination; the system is listed with each appliance and the manual sets the clearances, minimum height above grade and termination location rules. Vertical co-linear kits and caps for a normal up-the-chimney installation are in the DirectVent Pro category.
