SimpliFire Scion: a built in linear fireplace with tall glass

The SimpliFire Scion is a built in linear electric fireplace for a framed wall. It comes in 43 and 55 inch widths. Pick the size on the page. Behind 16-inch-tall glass, clear crystals and driftwood logs sit over glowing embers. No heater or mesh screen is visible. Choose nine flame colors with brightness settings, 13 ember colors or a rotating cycle, and warm or cool white down lighting. The active ember setting adds flickering. Two crackling sounds have volume control or can stay off. Use the included trim for finishes up to 1 inch thick. Leave it off for thicker materials or a frameless look. Your builder frames it in, running tile, stone or drywall to the edge. It’s also approved for protected outdoor rooms, such as a covered porch or three season room, out of the rain.

It needs no gas line or chimney. Hardwired with no plug, it gives 5,000 BTU at 120 volts or 10,000 BTU at 240 volts. Choose low, high or no heat while flames run. A thermostat and timer are built in. Use the buttons tucked out of sight on the fireplace, the remote or your phone’s Smart Life app over Wi-Fi. Link the app for Alexa or Google Home. In the box you get large and small clear crystals, black glass embers, multi-piece driftwood logs and remote. Optional ShadowGlo high definition logs come in Alpine Timber or Natural Birch. Decorative spheres are also available. Want a fire that shows on three sides? See the SimpliFire Triton electric fireplace. The SimpliFire Scion ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ

Does the Scion have Wi-Fi control, and which app does it use?

Yes. The Features tab lists Wi-Fi control of the thermostat, lighting and on/off, with a remote also included and buttons on the face of the fireplace. The installation manual walks through pairing with the Smart Life app on a 2.4 GHz network and links it to Alexa or Google Home for voice commands such as turning the fireplace on, setting a flame color or changing heat mode.

Is this linear fireplace hardwired, and does it use 120 V or 240 V?

The Scion is hard-wired, and the installation manual says it can be wired for either 120 V or 240 V. There is a heater voltage switch inside the unit that must match the wiring. A 120 V hookup needs a minimum 15 amp circuit (20 amp recommended); a 240 V hookup needs a 20 amp circuit. A dedicated circuit is preferred to prevent breaker trips. Output is 5,000 BTU at 120 V; 10,000 BTU at 240 V.

How deep is the unit, and what kind of wall does it need?

The specification lists a unit and framing depth of 7-5/8 inches for both sizes, so plan a framed chase or bump-out rather than expecting it to sit inside a standard 2×4 partition. Framing width is 45 inches for the 43 and 57 inches for the 55, with a 24-1/4 inch framing height. Finishing materials can run right up to the glass for the flush, built-in look.

Can I use it on a covered porch or in a three-season room?

Under specific conditions, yes. The Protected Outdoor Applications bulletin linked in the Manuals tab says UL has approved the Scion for outdoor rooms such as patios, decks and three-season rooms when it is protected from direct water, with overhang requirements, drainage under the unit and a GFCI-protected circuit. Read that bulletin with your installer before framing.

What comes standard for the fire bed, and what are the add-on options?

Clear crystal media and driftwood logs with glowing embers are included. If you want a different look, the selector above the price offers the ShadowGlo HD Alpine Timber log set, the ShadowGlo HD Natural Birch log set and Decorative Spheres as optional fire bed material; each shows its own price there. The sphere instruction sheet is in the Manuals tab under Accessory Manuals.

Does it have sound, and how adjustable is the flame?

Yes. The Features tab lists two crackling fire sounds (or no sound), nine flame effects, more than 100 flame and ember bed color combinations, brightness settings and accent lighting. Heat is adjustable and can be switched off entirely for ambiance only. The 16-inch tall glass with no visible heater or mesh screen is what gives the Scion its clean, built-in look.

What warranty comes with the Scion?

The Features tab states a 2-year warranty on this fireplace. Warranty terms, conditions and exclusions are printed in the owner’s manual linked in the Manuals tab, and registration goes through the manufacturer. As an authorized dealer we sell it with the full factory warranty, and you can compare it against the other models in our SimpliFire range.

Does the front trim come with it, and do I have to use it?

The front trim is included. Use it with painted drywall or thin tile totaling 1 inch thick or less. It overlaps the finish edge. Leave it off for stone, tile or brick thicker than 1 inch, or for a frameless look. The manual does not recommend going without trim with painted drywall. Either way, the finish runs up to the fireplace’s finishing stops. The trim comes off with four screws.
