Modern Flames Spectrum Slimline: a wall mount fireplace only 4 inches deep
The Modern Flames Spectrum Slimline is a wall mount linear electric fireplace. It comes in four widths from 50 to 100 inches. Pick the size on the page. The flame picture is 12 inches tall. It is low and wide and only 4 inches deep, so it fits inside a standard 2 by 4 wall. You choose the flame color, the ember bed color, and the downlight color, so the fire can look natural or match your room.
It needs no gas line and no chimney. Plug it into a wall outlet on its own circuit. It heats a room of up to 400 square feet with 5,000 BTU. Run the flames with or without heat. It comes with a remote. In the box you get hand painted Canyon Driftwood logs, acrylic crystals, a glass ember bed, the wall bracket, and the remote. For the 60 inch size, you can add an Allwood media wall, a wood wall unit with a mantel built around the fireplace. Want another built in option? FAQ
Can the Spectrum Slimline be recessed into a standard 2 by 4 wall?
Yes. At 4 inches deep it recesses into a 2 by 4 wall and finishes with a slim 5/8 inch trim so tile or hardwood can run right up to the opening, per the linear brochure. The manual lists a finished opening for the 60 inch model of 58-7/8 inches wide, 16-1/4 inches high, and 4 inches minimum deep. It can also wall mount on the included bracket.
Does it give off heat?
Yes, 5,000 BTU from a 1,465 watt heater with variable and thermostatic settings and a timer. Like every Modern Flames electric fireplace it is supplemental heat for the room you are in, not a primary heating system. The 12 inch viewing height keeps the flame effect low and wide, and the heater button lets you run the flames with the heat switched off.
Does it plug in?
Yes, it comes with a 120 volt plug, and the manual calls for a dedicated 15-amp breaker, plugging directly into a wall outlet rather than an extension cord or power strip. The manual also states indoor use only and says to always mount it on the wall bracket rather than setting it on the floor.
Can I put it under a TV?
The brochure lists installation beneath a TV as a standard feature. The manual’s minimum clearance to combustibles is 11.8 inches, or 300 mm, from the top of the glass front to a mantel or ceiling, with zero at the sides, bottom, and back, so keep at least that gap and follow your TV maker’s heat guidance.
How many colors and controls are there?
Ten flame colors and ten ember bed colors are controlled independently, plus an automatic color cycle. A six-button panel at the top right with a digital thermostat readout handles power, ember bed, flame color, heater, timer, and temperature, and a remote duplicates those functions. The Flame Style selector on this page only notes your preferred starting combination, at no charge.
What media and logs are included?
The Canyon Driftwood log set and acrylic crystal media come standard, over a Glacier Glass ember bed, according to the brochure. The Log Set Sizes flyer in the Manuals tab shows the log dimensions for each width. Note that the Modern Flames TruWood upgrade kits are not listed for Spectrum models in the vendor’s compatibility chart.
What is the Allwood media wall offered on the 60 inch size?
Selecting 60 inches adds the option of the Allwood Media Wall Fireplace System, a wood wall unit with a mantel and a cutout sized for the SPS-60B, in Coastal Sand, Driftwood Grey, or Weathered Walnut, with one or two shelf side walls. Its install guide sizes the complete unit at about 10 feet wide by 8 feet high. Browse more Modern Flames electric fireplaces here.
