Monessen Castlewood: an outdoor wood fireplace with a tall, open firebox
The Monessen Castlewood is an outdoor wood burning fireplace for the patio. It comes 42 or 50 inches wide, with an opening 38 inches tall. Pick the size on the page. That is the tallest opening in the family, so you can see the fire from across the yard. Your contractor frames a structure around it on the patio, runs the chimney, and finishes it in stone, stucco, or brick. Textured brick panels give the inside the look of a brick hearth. It is an open fireplace with no glass, so nothing sits between you and the fire. A black steel grate and stainless steel mesh curtain screens come with it.
The chimney pipe is sold separately, so ask us to quote the run. On the page you pick the brick pattern, traditional rows or herringbone (a zigzag pattern), in Natural Gray, Antler Velvet, Black Onyx, or Masonry Brown. Natural Gray traditional is included in the price. You can add bronze folding glass doors to close the opening between fires. Is the brick interior real masonry?
It is textured brick paneling engineered for the firebox, and the texture is the point: light and shadow move across it the way they do over a laid-brick wall, so the fire appears to burn inside true masonry. That is how the Castlewood delivers masonry-style looks at a fraction of the cost of a site-built hearth, without the weeks of masonry work.
Will the fire show from across the yard?
That is precisely the design intent. The large, high opening, 38 inches tall, stages the fire so it reads clearly from the far end of a yard and pulls people toward it after dark. Place it where your outdoor sightlines converge, patio, pool, or garden path, and the Castlewood converts the whole area into a welcoming, relaxing living space.
Do outdoor wood fireplaces need doors?
No. An open hearth is the classic arrangement, and this fireplace is built around exactly that experience. Doors are an option rather than a requirement: premium bi-fold glass doors in a bronze finish are available for owners who want to close the firebox off between uses. If the open fire is the reason you are buying, you lose nothing by skipping them.
Why add the Grand Oak gas log set to a wood fireplace?
Convenience, on the nights you want flames without tending firewood. The optional Outdoor Fireside Grand Oak set brings gas to the big firebox, and its documentation covers both intermittent pilot ignition and match-lit configurations, so the setup can be as automated or as simple as you like. Wood stays the main event; the log set is there for the easy evenings.
Will the grate and screens still look right after years of fires?
They are specified for exactly that. The black steel grate and the stainless steel mesh curtain screens are described as built to look great for years, with stainless mesh chosen because it stands up to weather that degrades plain steel. Hardware is where outdoor fireplaces usually age first, so durable pieces at those two spots matter more than they might seem.
Does the Castlewood come in more than one size?
No, and it does not need to. It is offered as a single 42-inch-wide model that stands over six feet tall once framed, a scale that makes one size a statement on its own. If a different footprint suits your space better, our Monessen outdoor fireplaces include smaller wood-burning and gas designs to compare against it.
How big a fire can it actually hold?
A genuinely large one; the experience of a large wood fire is the whole premise of this design. The firebox opening stands 38 inches tall, which gives flames vertical room to develop rather than curling under a low lintel, and the 42-inch width gives the fire real breadth. Build it up for a crowd or keep it modest; the capacity is there.

A sauna turns your garden into a spa oasis. We debated it for a while, but after renovating our house, we pulled the trigger and bought a sauna from Norse Steam and Maya. Sizing and heating need to be figured out, as does the building, but we have always had a helpful partner on our side. We purchased the 3-person sauna for our outdoor garden. We chose the cube sauna for the aesthetic and could not be happier.
I assembled by myself except for the 2 large panels (requires a few people). Instructions were good - took me two partial Saturdays to complete and a few hours to unpack and organize in advance of assembly. Had my elec. add a NEMA enclosure on the back for the controller and power for lights and a 2nd panel for the wireless control.

Norse Steam, and specifically Maya, were extremely helpful as I was making the decision for our Sauna. I was able to get all of the necessary details to make a decision as construction was happening in my backyard to make space for it.
We absolutely love the CL7G. It is extremely comfortable for 6 people (can fit more less comfortably). The Thermory Spruce and Aspen in the interior smells great. The lighting is lovely. We paired the CL7G with the Harvia Spirit 10.5kw.

Smoking Hot Tub!
I got the Norse Steam SaunaLife wood-fired hot tub, the S4N model, and its been seriously great. It heats up quicker than I expected, usually around an hour and a half, and once its hot, it stays that way for a good long while. The wood-fired system is simple to use, and honestly kind of fun.
The tub itself feels solid and well put together. The thermo-spruce exterior looks beautiful in person, and the fiberglass interior is smooth, deep, and easy to clean. Its the kind of setup that just works without a bunch of fuss, which I really appreciate.
Also, the team at Norse Steam was genuinely great to work with. Super helpful, quick to respond, and made the process really easy from start to finish. It felt like they actually cared that I was happy with it. The tub has totally become a go-to way to unwind, and I wouldnt change a thing.

Great Sauna & Purchase Experience
Great experience purchasing Finnmark FD-2 from Norse Steam. Good communication and easy to assemble. Temperature increases quickly (30 minutes or less to 140) and maintains well. So far this has been a great purchase.

Great sauna and great customer service
We purchased the Finnmark SD-1 sauna. Maya was extremely helpful with the purchase. We had an issue with the sauna not reaching the maximum temperature, and Maya connected us with the appropriate technician that explained how to correct the issue. The sauna now heats to the maximum temperature (170 degrees) in less than an hour, and it is a great unit. We are very happy with it, and we would definitely purchase from NorseSteam if we needed any other items.
