The Golden Designs Kaskinen is a six person outdoor hybrid sauna that looks like a little barn. Hybrid means it has both a traditional stove and infrared heaters, so you can choose a hot steamy sauna or a gentler warm-up. It has a pitched tile roof and a cream colored exterior made to handle rain and sun. Inside, the wood is Canadian red cedar. A bronze tinted glass door and a tall window let the light in. It takes up about 69 by 84 inches of patio, plus a little more for the roof overhang.
Turn the switch to the Harvia 8 kW stove and the room reaches 170 to 185 degrees. Turn it to infrared and fifteen heaters warm you at a lower temperature. Only one runs at a time. Inside you get a starry ceiling light, a control panel with FM radio and Bluetooth, speakers, and a sandglass timer, bucket, and scoop. The shell measures 69 x 84 in with a 95 in peak, plus 4 in all around for the tiled roof overhang. The cedar interior is 63 x 78 in with 88 in of headroom for six. It weighs 1,575 lbs assembled and 1,795 lbs on the pallet, the heaviest sauna in the Golden Designs outdoor range we carry.
A Harvia 8 kW stove handles traditional sessions, while fifteen full spectrum emitters (seven carbon PureTech near-zero-EMF panels and eight near-infrared elements) handle infrared sessions. The main power switch selects one or the other; they cannot run together. Golden Designs suggests infrared when it is 45 F or warmer outside and the stove at any temperature.
One 240 V / 40 A service covers the 8 kW stove and the full spectrum system; the page and the hybrid owner’s manual agree, and no separate 120 V circuit is listed. A certified licensed electrician must hardwire it with 90 C rated copper wire and a breaker sized to local code. No extension cords, receptacle adapters or aluminum wire.
Four adults are recommended. Two set the floor and rear wall, two to four lift the six-person side walls, and three to four place the two roof sections before the tile strips and stainless flange are screwed back on. Only a Phillips or battery screwdriver is needed. The main power switch and stove are wired by your electrician.
Yes. Its vanilla creme all-weather exterior is built to sit in rain and sun, and the stove side works in any outside temperature, so it is usable through winter; infrared mode is for milder days. Keep a UV protectant on the cedar, expect a little seepage that dries in use, cover it when idle and avoid storms.
Stove mode: 170-185 F ideal, 190 F maximum. Infrared mode: 118-132 F ideal, not above 140 F. The manual limits each session to 40 minutes, suggests a 10-20 minute cool-down after exercise before entering, and requires an hour of shutdown after four hours of operation. Leave immediately if you feel dizzy or unwell.
The sandglass, bucket and scoop, galaxy star ceiling lighting, backrest accent light, bronze privacy glass door, LED control panel with FM radio and Bluetooth, and built-in speakers all come standard. I got the Norse Steam SaunaLife wood-fired hot tub, the S4N model, and its been seriously great. It heats up quicker than I expected, usually around an hour and a half, and once its hot, it stays that way for a good long while. The wood-fired system is simple to use, and honestly kind of fun.
The tub itself feels solid and well put together. The thermo-spruce exterior looks beautiful in person, and the fiberglass interior is smooth, deep, and easy to clean. Its the kind of setup that just works without a bunch of fuss, which I really appreciate.
