Modern Flames Orion Traditional: an electric insert for your existing fireplace opening
The Modern Flames Orion Traditional is an electric fireplace insert. An insert slides into the fireplace opening you already have, so an old wood fireplace becomes an electric one. It can also be built into a new wall. It comes in five widths from 26 to 54 inches. Pick the size on the page. The flame picture is up to 30 inches tall, above lit driftwood logs and crystal glass. The fire is a high definition video of real flames on a screen, so it looks the same whether you are standing or sitting.
It needs no gas line and no chimney. Plug it into a wall outlet on its own circuit. It heats a room of up to 400 square feet with 5,000 BTU. On the 36, 42, and 54 inch sizes an electrician can hardwire it for 8,300 BTU. Run the flames with or without heat. It comes with a remote, and you can also run it from your phone with the Modern Flames app. In the box you get the lit log set, the crystal glass, and the remote. FAQ
Will the Orion Traditional fit into my existing fireplace opening?
That is one of its two installation modes: insert into an existing masonry or factory fireplace opening, or built in with a clean face. Match the opening to the manual’s finished-opening figures, for example 23 inches wide, 18-3/4 inches high, and 10 inches deep for the 26 inch model, and cover any gap with the optional surround from the selector. The brochure positions it as an electric replacement for a wood-burning firebox.
What do the surround trim kits cover?
The surrounds close the gap between the insert and a larger opening. For the 26 inch unit the Small 5 inch kit covers openings up to 32-3/4 inches wide by 27 inches high and the Large 7 inch kit up to 36-3/4 by 31 inches; the 30 and 36 inch sizes have similar Small and Large options. Choose the surround under your size on the selector; no surround is listed for 42 or 54.
How much heat does it put out?
The installation manual rates the heater at 1,465 watts, or 5,000 BTU, on 120 volts. The 36, 42, and 54 inch models can also be wired to 240 volts by a qualified electrician, which raises output to 2,500 watts and 8,300 BTU. Modern Flames describes it as supplemental heat rather than a primary heat source.
What electrical circuit is required?
A dedicated 20-amp breaker, per the manual, with the fireplace plugged directly into a wall outlet on that circuit; extension cords and power strips are not permitted. For a concealed connection, or for the 240-volt option on the larger sizes, an electrician removes the cord and hardwires it, using a 20-amp two-pole circuit for 240 volts.
How tall is the flame display, and what flame styles are available?
The Features tab lists up to a 30 inch high viewing area, the tallest in the Orion range, driven by Heliovision LCD flame technology. The brochure lists three flame styles in six colors, multi-color lit driftwood logs, a multi-color ember bed with crystal glass, downlighting, and adjustable crackling sound, controlled from the touch panel, remote, or the Modern Flames app.
How far above it can a mantel or TV sit?
The manual’s minimum clearance to combustibles is 11.8 inches, or 300 mm, from the glass front to a mantel, TV, or ceiling, with zero clearance at the sides, bottom, and back. A mantel finished with paint or lacquer needs a heat-resistant product to avoid discoloration. Follow your TV manufacturer’s heat guidance as well.
Can it be installed outside?
No. This first-generation Orion Traditional is marked indoor use only in its manual. If you want a covered-patio installation, look at the Orion V2 Traditional, which the manufacturer rates for indoor and outdoor use; both are in our Modern Flames electric fireplace collection.

A sauna turns your garden into a spa oasis. We debated it for a while, but after renovating our house, we pulled the trigger and bought a sauna from Norse Steam and Maya. We purchased the 3-person sauna for our outdoor garden. We chose the cube sauna for the aesthetic and could not be happier.
I assembled by myself except for the 2 large panels (requires a few people). Instructions were good - took me two partial Saturdays to complete and a few hours to unpack and organize in advance of assembly. Had my elec. add a NEMA enclosure on the back for the controller and power for lights and a 2nd panel for the wireless control.

Norse Steam, and specifically Maya, were extremely helpful as I was making the decision for our Sauna. I was able to get all of the necessary details to make a decision as construction was happening in my backyard to make space for it.
We absolutely love the CL7G. It is extremely comfortable for 6 people (can fit more less comfortably). The Thermory Spruce and Aspen in the interior smells great. The lighting is lovely. We paired the CL7G with the Harvia Spirit 10.5kw.

Smoking Hot Tub!
I got the Norse Steam SaunaLife wood-fired hot tub, the S4N model, and its been seriously great. It heats up quicker than I expected, usually around an hour and a half, and once its hot, it stays that way for a good long while. The wood-fired system is simple to use, and honestly kind of fun.
The tub itself feels solid and well put together. The thermo-spruce exterior looks beautiful in person, and the fiberglass interior is smooth, deep, and easy to clean. Its the kind of setup that just works without a bunch of fuss, which I really appreciate.
Also, the team at Norse Steam was genuinely great to work with. Super helpful, quick to respond, and made the process really easy from start to finish. It felt like they actually cared that I was happy with it. The tub has totally become a go-to way to unwind, and I wouldnt change a thing.

Great Sauna & Purchase Experience
Great experience purchasing Finnmark FD-2 from Norse Steam. Good communication and easy to assemble. Temperature increases quickly (30 minutes or less to 140) and maintains well. So far this has been a great purchase.

Great sauna and great customer service
We purchased the Finnmark SD-1 sauna. Maya was extremely helpful with the purchase. We had an issue with the sauna not reaching the maximum temperature, and Maya connected us with the appropriate technician that explained how to correct the issue. The sauna now heats to the maximum temperature (170 degrees) in less than an hour, and it is a great unit. We are very happy with it, and we would definitely purchase from NorseSteam if we needed any other items.
