FAQ
How many finishes does the metal Redan come in?
Ten across one silhouette: hand-hammered Copper, Corten weathering steel, Stainless Steel, and seven powder-coat colors including Java, Pewter, Silver Vein, and White. Same Redan bones every time — the finish decides whether it reads rustic, industrial, or crisply modern on your patio.
What are the sizes and weight?
The metal Redan is offered at 36 and 48 inches, with the larger version weighing in around 215 pounds — hefty enough to stay put in wind, light enough for two or three people to position. SKUs include OPT-SQ36SS and OPT-SQ48CS.
What ignition can I order on it?
Anything from unpowered Match Lit up through Match Lit with Flame Sense (LC certified), Flame Sense with Spark, Low Voltage Electronic (CSA certified), and Plug and Play (CSA certified). If you are wiring a new patio anyway, the electronic Redan options are worth speccing from day one.
Is 215 pounds too much for a wood deck?
Usually not — most decks handle far more per square foot than the Redan exerts, but confirm your framing, especially on elevated decks. The bigger considerations are the gas-fire ones: keep the spec clearances, avoid trapping heat under the base, and check local code.
What is the lighting routine?
Match Lit: crack the valve, touch a long lighter to the burner, done. Electronic: press the button or flip the switch and the Redan handles ignition and flame monitoring itself. Either way you are at full fire in seconds — no kindling, no coaxing.
How far from the house should I place it?
Ten feet is the classic guideline; the Redan being gas — emberless and smokeless — means some codes permit closer siting, but never inside the clearances on the spec sheet, and never under low overhangs. Our gas fire pit collection includes slimmer formats if your layout is tight.
Can you make smores over it?
Enthusiastically, yes — gas burns clean, so smores off the Redan taste of toasted marshmallow rather than smoke. Work at the flame tips, keep drips off the media, and the only evidence afterward is graham cracker crumbs on the patio.
