The Empire Breckenridge is the vent free gas firebox your builder frames into a wall so you can finish the fireplace your own way. Choose a tile surround or a brick hearth, then pick your size on the product page. Start with the Breckenridge below, or explore Empire fireboxes for outdoor gas and indoor or outdoor wood fires.

What is an Empire Breckenridge?

It is a vent free firebox: the housing only, with no chimney or vent pipe. Your builder frames a wall around the steel shell and finishes that wall in stone, tile, or brick. Add a burner and log set, a liner and a front to complete your gas fireplace. Check your local codes first.

Pair Empire burners with a vent free log set in ceramic fiber or concrete. Browse ventless fireplaces across brands or complete Empire fireplaces.

The four Breckenridge versions

Choose the Empire Breckenridge Deluxe, Breckenridge Select or Breckenridge Premium in 32, 36 or 42 inches. Deluxe offers a flush front or a louvered front, arched doors and louvers in black or pewter. Options include brick liners and a cabinet or corner mantel for a corner fireplace.

Select shows less metal and can sit at floor level. Premium has a bigger opening. Both offer a lighting kit, and a blower is an add-on for all four versions.

The 36 inch Premium Multi-Sided offers a see through layout between two rooms among our double sided fireplaces, or a peninsula with glass on three sides. Screens, banded brick liners and sills are included.

Empire's other fireboxes

Carol Rose Outdoor Premium comes in 36 or 42 inches in our outdoor gas collection. Add an Empire outdoor burner and logs separately.

For an indoor wood burning firebox, compare Blackburn's square opening with the 60 inch Aspen Traditional and low-opening Aspen Linear in our Wood Burning Fireplaces collection. All burn real logs and need a separate chimney, with liners required for both Aspens.

Aspen Outdoor Traditional and Aspen Outdoor Linear, our outdoor wood models, require a chimney, liner and firebrick. Compare linear fireplace shapes or find another outdoor firebox in our outdoor fireplace collection.

Frequently asked questions

Are the logs included with an Empire Breckenridge firebox?

No. You choose the Empire vent free burner and the log set separately for natural gas or propane. The liner, the front and a blower are separate choices too, although the Multi-Sided includes screens, banded brick liners and sills. For help matching the box size, call us and we will talk it through.

How is a Breckenridge firebox vented?

A vent-free firebox needs no chimney or vent pipe, so heat stays in the room. The Empire burner has an oxygen depletion sensor that shuts off gas if room air runs low. Choose one rated for your room, arrange logs as instructed, and check your local code for vent free restrictions.

Can an Empire Breckenridge firebox go outside?

No. All Breckenridge versions are for indoor rooms. For a patio, choose the Carol Rose Outdoor Premium, built to stay outside and certified for an Empire outdoor burner. The Aspen Outdoor Traditional and Aspen Outdoor Linear burn real logs outside.
