SaunaLife G11B: a barrel sauna with a lounge and furnished porch
The SaunaLife G11B is an outdoor barrel sauna kit for eight people. Alongside the sauna is an equally sized lounge where you can change clothes or sit between sessions. A front porch adds benches and a table, while a round front window brings in daylight. The B version includes black exterior paint for you to brush on yourself. Allow 159.4 inches of width and 118.1 inches of depth in your yard. The exterior is thermo spruce, meaning spruce baked in a kiln to resist moisture and rot. It can last up to twice as long as cedar.
Inside, L shaped benches provide upper and lower seating, and a bronze tinted glass door separates the sauna from the lounge. The roof shingles and an extra protective layer underneath come in the kit. Delivery requires a forklift or crane for unloading from the flatbed truck. The heater is sold separately, so choose one of the 3 electric heater packages on the page, from 9.6 to 10.5 kW, each with its control and stones. Prefer a cube shape? FAQ
What does the B in the model name mean, and do I have to paint it myself?
The B means the SaunaLife G11B includes three containers of black exterior paint, and yes, you brush it on yourself after assembly. Follow the paint manual on the Manual tab and apply it only outside, never inside the hot room. The finish expands and contracts with the weather and will need fresh coats over the years to stay black.
Does this sauna come with a heater?
No, the heater is sold separately. The Select Heater add-on on this page offers three electric packages from 9.6 to 10.5 kW, each with its control and stones. Choose one when ordering or buy one later, with a higher kW option for a colder climate.
What electrical work does it need?
Your setup depends on your property and heater choice, so have a licensed electrician check the requirements in the heater's manual. Every package on this page needs its own hardwired 240 volt circuit, with no shared dryer, hot tub, or EV circuit, plug-in connection, or extension cord. Outdoor runs need buried conduit and a weatherproof disconnect.
What do I put under it? Can it sit on grass or on my deck?
No to bare grass or soil, and a deck works only if it is built to carry the weight. Your site needs a firm, flat, level base, such as compacted gravel topped with pavers, a concrete slab, or a suitable deck. The Specifications tab lists a shipping weight of 3,196 pounds, and an uneven base can leave staves misaligned and the door unable to latch.
How long does it take to assemble, and how many people do I need?
Plan on two people and about two days, based on SaunaLife's cabin kit assembly rating. The pieces are numbered, and the instructions are on the Manual tab. First-time builders often need longer, and the electrician's visit takes a separate day.
Can it stay outside all winter?
Yes, it is built for year-round outdoor use. In freezing weather, heating often takes 45 to 90 minutes instead of 30 to 45 minutes. Keep the vents clear.
How is it delivered?
It arrives on a flatbed truck by appointment. You need a forklift or crane to unload it because the driver does not unload it for you. Inspect the shipment before signing and note any damage on the receipt.
What is thermo spruce, and how do I look after the outside?
Thermo spruce is Nordic spruce heat treated with steam in a kiln, which reduces moisture absorption and movement and helps it last up to twice as long as cedar outdoors. It has a mild toasted smell and no resin, and bare wood turns silver gray over time. On this model, maintain the black exterior paint with fresh coats over the years.
Do I need a permit or HOA approval?
It depends on your town and HOA, so check locally before ordering. The dedicated 240 volt circuit almost always needs an electrical permit, and towns that exempt small accessory buildings from building permits can still require setbacks. Your HOA may have separate approval rules.
