DuraVent DuraTech Roof Radiation Shield: keeps roof framing clear of the chimney
The DuraVent DuraTech Roof Radiation Shield is a shield for the opening where your chimney crosses the roof. It keeps the roof framing spaced away from the pipe. Some factory built fireplaces, particularly Canadian models, require this shield. The fireplace’s instructions determine whether you need it. DuraVent lists it as optional for other installations. DuraTech is DuraVent’s double wall chimney, an insulated pipe with a 1 inch wall that takes over from the stovepipe at the ceiling or wall and runs up past the roof. The chimney needs 2 inches of open air around it, clear of framing, insulation, and other materials that can burn.
The shield stands about 15 inches tall. Choose a 5, 6, 7, or 8 inch diameter to match your chimney. The chimney starts at the ceiling support box or wall thimble, the sleeve through the wall. Below that point, DuraVent’s double wall DVL or single wall DuraBlack stovepipe connects the stove and slides into the support box’s built-in adapter. Need the outside roof seal? See the DuraVent DuraTech Roof Flashing sealing skirt. The DuraVent DuraTech Roof Radiation Shield ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.
