How to choose your ventless gas log set

Match the set to your room’s heating needs and check local building codes before buying. Vent free gas logs have shorter, neater flames than vented gas logs. For the fullest flame, compare vented sets; they require a working chimney and an open damper, sending most heat up the flue.

Choose a look for your hearth, from split oak to birch or logs cast from real wood. Real Fyre’s vent-free range offers hand-painted oak, birch, driftwood and charred looks. Superior’s gas logs glow where flames touch the ceramic fiber, with outdoor versions available. Monessen’s sets feature tall yellow flames over an ember bed; most can also run vented.

Check whether your gas log set includes the burner or requires a burner choice. Many sets offer a remote control or thermostat. Select controls on the product page.

Frequently asked questions

Are ventless gas logs safe?

Every set has an oxygen depletion sensor that shuts off gas if room oxygen drops. They burn cleanly and provide extra room heat. Crack a window in a tight house. Check local codes for restrictions; call us if you are unsure.

Do ventless gas logs need a chimney?

No. They run with the damper closed and need no chimney or vent pipe, so they suit a fireplace whose chimney no longer draws. Dual-rated sets can also run with the damper open if you want to use them vented later.

Will ventless gas logs heat my room?

Yes. With the damper closed, nearly all the heat stays in the room. Many sets offer a thermostat to hold your chosen temperature. Match the set to your room’s size and use it as extra heat, not your only heat source.
