DuraVent DuraBlack Stovepipe Kit: a straight up connection for an 8 foot ceiling
The DuraVent DuraBlack Stovepipe Kit is a 6 inch pipe set for a stove venting straight up to a DuraTech or DuraPlus chimney. For a typical 8 foot ceiling, it includes two straight lengths, each 24 inches long, and a 14 inch slip connector with trim at the top. The connector slides to fill the remaining gap without cutting. DuraBlack is DuraVent’s single wall black stovepipe, the pipe that runs from a wood stove to the chimney inside the room. This kit works with wood, coal, oil, or gas stoves.
The chimney, ceiling support box, and any needed stove outlet adapter are separate. A DuraPlus support box needs the DVL/DuraBlack chimney adapter included in DuraPlus kits. Subtract 1 1/4 inch per joint when calculating length. Each joint needs three screws and no sealant. Leave 18 inches of open air between the pipe and walls or ceilings that can burn. For closer walls, DuraVent’s double wall DVL pipe allows 6 inches. Want to choose parts individually? Use the DuraVent DuraBlack Single Wall Stovepipe Kit Builder. FAQ
What is in the DuraBlack Stovepipe Kit, and what installation does it cover?
The 6DBK-KSP kit has a 14-inch DuraBlack Slip Connector with Trim and two 24-inch lengths of 6-inch DuraBlack single-wall black pipe. It is sized for a typical 8-foot ceiling: the pipe runs from the stove collar up to the chimney support box, and the slip connector telescopes to take up the last few inches so nothing has to be cut.
How much clearance does single-wall DuraBlack need?
DuraBlack must be installed with at least 18 inches of clearance to combustible walls and ceilings. If the stove sits closer to a wall than that allows, DuraVent’s double-wall DVL connector pipe drops the requirement to 6 inches from walls and 8 inches from ceilings, and DVL is also the required choice in a manufactured or mobile home.
How does the kit connect to the chimney?
The Slip Connector is the adapter: it locks into a DuraVent chimney support box or wall thimble and gives 2 to 10 inches of adjustment against the pipe below it. With DuraTech, DuraTech Premium or DuraTech Canada the trim collar is not needed; DuraPlus support boxes use the DVL/DuraBlack Chimney Adapter that comes in the DuraPlus kits.
Do the joints need screws or sealant?
Screws are required to fasten DuraBlack: use three sheet metal screws spaced evenly around each joint. No sealant is needed. Each joint takes up 1-1/4 inches of length, and if a length is still too long you may shorten the male end with a hacksaw or tin snips. The slip connector is there precisely so most installs never need cutting.
Can DuraBlack pass through a wall or ceiling, or be boxed in?
No. Single-wall stovepipe is connector pipe only: national code says it may not be enclosed and may not leave the room the stove is in. Where the pipe reaches the ceiling or wall the run must change to a listed chimney such as DuraTech or DuraPlus, with the stovepipe ending at the support box or wall thimble.
Which fuels can this stovepipe vent, and what is the warranty?
DuraBlack is a connector pipe for wood, oil, coal or gas appliances feeding a factory-built chimney. This painted, lock-seamed steel pipe carries DuraVent’s five-year warranty (the chimney systems themselves are limited lifetime). Scuffs can be touched up with a high-temperature stove paint; see DuraVent’s touch-up paint bulletin in the Product Resources tab.
