Real Fyre American Oak: split oak logs with a bold, weathered look
The Real Fyre American Oak is a vented gas log set. The logs copy split American oak with deep grain. Their bold, weathered look suits a rustic room. It is a vented set, so it needs a real fireplace with a working chimney and burns with the damper open. You get the tallest and most natural flames, and most of the heat goes up the chimney. It comes in 18, 24, or 30 inch sets. Measure your firebox at the front, at the back, and front to back, and if you land between two sizes, take the smaller set.
Each log is molded from a real piece of wood, cast in a ceramic made for high heat with a steel rod inside, and painted by hand. The price is for the logs only. On the page you pick natural gas or propane and add the burner. The choices are the G45, the G45 in stainless steel for an outdoor fireplace, or the G46, which hides its controls. You also pick how it lights: by hand with a match on natural gas, with a knob and a pilot light that stays lit, or with a remote. A Fyreback, a steel panel that stands behind the fire, is optional. FAQ
What makes the American Oak logs look so convincing?
Each AO stack is a hand-painted original modeled from real oak samples, so the split faces, deep grain, and high-definition bark carry the irregularities of actual firewood. The refractory ceramic holds that surface detail crisp at operating temperature instead of washing out, which is why the American Oak reads as real wood even up close.
How is a set like the AO actually lit?
That depends on the burner configuration you order. A match-lit setup is lit by hand at the burner, a standing safety pilot lights from its valve, and electronic ignition starts at the push of a button. Whichever you choose, the AO logs simply sit above the flame system and glow once the fire is going.
Which sizes does the AO come in?
Three: 18, 24, and 30 inches, sold as AO-18, AO-24, and AO-30. Pick the width that leaves comfortable clearance inside your firebox on both sides; a crowded American Oak stack chokes the air movement around the flame and never looks quite right.
What burner options sit beneath the American Oak?
Four vented systems are listed for the AO: G4, G45, G45 stainless steel, and G46. The burner determines fuel type, output, and controls, so it is specified together with the logs at order time. The whole Real Fyre Designer Series shares these same platforms.
Do vented logs like these use much gas?
Consumption is set by the burner, not the logs: a larger G45 or G46 under the AO burns more gas at full flame than a smaller G4, and turning the flame down cuts usage further. Since a vented set is about ambience rather than whole-home heating, most owners run it for the evening rather than all day.
What is the right way to clean these logs?
Once or twice a season, with everything cold and the gas off, lift the AO logs and dust them with a soft, dry brush; never use water or household cleaners on painted ceramic. Vacuum around the burner ports and the firebox floor, then reset each log in its original diagrammed position.
Is any odor normal from a gas log fire?
Day to day, almost none: with the damper open, a vented set like the AO sends combustion odors up the flue. A faint scent right after ignition is usually dust burning off the logs. A persistent raw gas smell is different; shut the set down and have the line checked.
