Valcourt Mundo II: a wide black face with a single glass door
The Valcourt Mundo II is a wood burning fireplace that heats the house. Valcourt rates it for 750 to 2,200 square feet, so it can heat a large open room or most of a smaller house. It has a wide, flat black face and a single glass door. It is a zero clearance fireplace, which means your builder frames it into a wall during construction or a renovation. A chimney runs up from it, so you do not need a masonry fireplace.
Load it up and turn the air down, and it burns up to 8 hours. At full burn it puts out up to 80,000 BTU. It meets the current EPA clean air rules. It burns dry, seasoned firewood. Nothing is required on the page beyond the fireplace itself. A gravity kit, grilles that let the warm air rise out into the room on its own, is optional in a traditional or a modern style. A forced air kit that ducts some of the heat to another room is also optional, and it needs the modern gravity kit. NightFlame glass is a dark glass that hides the inside of the firebox when the fire is out and turns clear when it burns. It is optional on the page. You can add a firescreen door for open door fires or a glass hearth pad that protects the floor in front, and more on the page. Want the same firebox in a narrower body? See the Valcourt Lafayette II wood fireplace. The Valcourt Mundo II ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.
FAQ
What is the gravity kit selector for?
A hot air gravity distribution kit that lets the fireplace heat naturally through decorative grilles. The install manual lists both the Traditional and the Modern adjustable-pipe versions as optional, so pick either one on the Gravity Kit selector at the price shown, or neither. The description notes the forced air kit can only be installed together with the Modern gravity kit.
How much heat and how long?
750 to 2,200 square feet, up to 80,000 BTU per hour on dry cordwood and burn times up to 8 hours from a 2.5 cubic foot firebox with 20 inch logs, the same engine as the Lafayette II but in a wider 50-1/4 inch contemporary body. Efficiency is 64 percent HHV at 1.2 grams per hour.
What is NightFlame glass?
An optional Robax ceramic glass, on the Options selector, that changes appearance when the fire is out so it conceals the firebox interior yet stays clear when the fire burns, per the description. The standard glass is 26-1/8 by 13-3/8 inch ceramic with an air-wash system to keep it clean.
Chimney and clearances?
A 6 inch CAN/ULC S629 or UL 103 HT chimney of at least 15 feet from the approved list on the page. Clearances are 76 inches to the ceiling from the platform, 8 inches to a side mantle, 13 inches to a side wall and 48 inches from the base to a shelf. The label on the unit governs.
Is it EPA certified?
Yes, EPA 2020 approved and non-catalytic with a stainless secondary-air system; the description highlights an incredibly low particle emission rate, listed as 1.2 grams per hour. It is not approved for mobile homes. Shipping weight is 427 pounds, and the design holds an industrial design protection.
What finishing options are there?
The Options selector adds a metallic black finishing trim, NightFlame glass, a firescreen door, carrying handles, a glass hearth pad and fresh air or flex pipe kits; Fireplace tool sets adds a 48 inch wood storage unit with trim or a drawer and tool kit. Compare with other indoor fireplaces.
