Fire Magic 30 inch Analog Built In Electric Grill: knob controls with no gas line or flame
The Fire Magic 30 inch Analog Built In Electric Grill is a 30 inch built in electric grill. Built in means it slides into a cutout in an outdoor kitchen island, so it has no legs of its own. Fire Magic builds it in the USA from 304 stainless steel, the grade that holds up best outdoors. Electric means it heats with elements under the grates, with no gas line and no flame, so it can go where gas is not allowed. It gives you about 480 square inches of cooking space plus a warming rack.
The grates are Diamond Sear grids, thick stainless steel bars with a flat top for clean sear marks. It needs its own 240 volt circuit, so plan on an electrician. Analog means a temperature knob and a one hour timer knob instead of a touch screen, and it reaches 650 degrees. Keep it out of open rain, since it is electric. A Magic View Window, a glass panel in the hood for checking the food without lifting the lid, is optional on the page. Prefer a touch screen? FAQ
How does the analog EL500i differ from the touch-screen versions?
It uses a TEMP knob and a TIMER knob instead of the black glass touch panel, so there is no app, digital readout or meat probe, and the thermostat tops out at 650 degrees F rather than 700. The manual’s timer runs up to one hour, shuts the elements off automatically, and needs to be turned past 20 minutes to activate for short cooks.
What circuit does it need?
A dedicated 240 volt, 30 amp minimum single-phase GFCI circuit breaker with an in-line disconnect or removable plug, wired to the junction box at the rear of the grill, per the analog EL500i manual; the grill is rated at 6,000 watts. Have a licensed electrician run the circuit.
Can I get a window in the lid?
Yes. The Customize Windows and Controls selector on this page offers the lid with or without the Magic View Window, and the manual’s parts list includes a windowed lid for the analog grill. The windowed version is the EL500I-0Z1E-W in the Specifications tab, with the difference shown on the selector.
What cutout does it need?
Cut the countertop 33 inches wide, 17 1/2 inches deep and 7 1/4 inches high; the countertop must be non-combustible and the Fire Magic spec guide lists an insulating liner for combustible enclosures. Leave access at the rear for the junction box. Compare other built-in grills here.
How much cooking space and heat?
The grid is 30 by 16 inches, or 480 square inches, on patented Diamond Sear grids, with a 12 inch deep dual-position warming rack that the Features tab recommends for low and slow cooking. The elements reach 650 degrees F, and the manual says to preheat for at least 15 minutes with the double-walled hood closed.
Can it stay out in the weather?
It is an outdoor grill, but the manual says never to grill in open rain or standing water because it is electric, and never to use charcoal in it. Fit the protective cover the manual lists when it sits idle, and burn off the grids at 650 degrees F for 10 to 15 minutes after cooking.
