Fire Magic Echelon E790i Built In Grill with Analog Thermometer: a 36 inch gas grill with a dial thermometer

The Fire Magic Echelon E790i Built In Grill with Analog Thermometer is a 36 inch built in gas grill from Fire Magic’s top line. Built in means it slides into a cutout in an outdoor kitchen island, so it has no legs of its own. Fire Magic builds it in the USA from 304 stainless steel, the grade that holds up best outdoors. Three cast stainless steel burners give 96,000 BTUs, and they are so thick that Fire Magic guarantees them for life. It gives you about 790 square inches of cooking space plus a warming rack.

The grates are Diamond Sear grids, thick stainless steel bars with a flat top for clean sear marks, and flavor grids under them turn drippings into smoke and keep flare ups down. The double walled hood holds heat like an oven, and halogen lights inside light the grates after dark. Push a knob in and a glow plug lights the burner, so plan for an outlet in the island. A dial in the hood shows the oven heat at a glance. An infrared back burner at the rear runs the included rotisserie, so a chicken or a roast turns and bastes itself. On the page you pick natural gas or propane, and a Magic View Window, a glass panel in the hood for checking food without lifting the lid, is optional. Prefer a touch screen? The Fire Magic Echelon E790i Built In Grill with Analog Thermometer ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

Features

Diamond Sear Cooking Grids

Diamond Sear Cooking Grids are superior! Diamond Sear Cooking Grids have a patented* design with bars that have a smooth flat top. Each bar is shaped to optimally transfer the heat from the burners to the cooking surface…food cooks faster and more evenly!

Cast Stainless Steel Burners

Burners Made of ¼” Thick Cast 304 Stainless Steel 304 grade burners weighing up to 12 lbs, featuring a lifetime warranty. Designed with a protective lip above the ports to prevent clogging from grease. Guaranteed for life.

Flavor Grids

Flavor Grids perform by allowing heat to rise unobstructed from the burner to cooking grids. They disperse heat quickly and evenly flavor the food by vaporizing juices and minimizing flare ups and grease fires. They are also easy to clean and maintain.

Angled Halogen Internal Lights

The Echelon Diamond E660 and E790 grills have 2 internal halogen lamps. The E1060 grill has 3 lamps.

90 Degree Double Walled Hood

Comfort Touch Knobs With Brushed Finish

Smooth, seamless lines with a brushed finish that feature back-lit knobs (at 41°). Comfort touch grips and flame icons for convenience and safety (flame turns red when on) make grilling easy.

FAQ

What do I lose by choosing the analog thermometer?

Only the digital touch panel: this version reads oven temperature from a large analog gauge in the hood rather than an under-glass display, so there is no smartphone monitoring or meat probe. Everything else matches the digital E790i, including the black glass panel, back-lit comfort touch knobs, two halogen lamps, cast stainless burners and the recessed infrared backburner.

What cutout and enclosure does this 36-inch grill need?

Plan an opening 37 inches wide, 23 1/2 inches deep and 11 1/2 inches high, with a 38 3/4 inch control panel width per the Fire Magic spec guide. The countertop must be non-combustible; a wood or composite enclosure needs the matching insulating liner. The manual asks for 18 inches of clearance from combustibles and a GFCI outlet within reach.

Does the grill need to be plugged in?

Yes. The Echelon manual specifies a weatherproof 120 volt, 15 amp GFCI receptacle. Press a knob for about five seconds and an igniter glows inside the lighting tube, then turn to HI LIGHT; the same supply feeds the two interior lights and the rotisserie motor. The gas flow indicator on each knob turns red when gas is flowing.

How do I light it if the power goes out?

The manual describes manual lighting: with the gas on and all knobs off, hold a long-barrel lighter or long match at the top of the lighting tube for five seconds, then press and turn the matching knob to HI LIGHT. For the backburner, hold the flame against the burner surface. Always wait five minutes after any failed attempt.

Is the rotisserie included?

Yes. The 13,000 BTU infrared backburner is recessed at the rear under a stainless cover, and the owner’s manual linked in the Catalog tab lists the super heavy-duty rotisserie motor and rod as standard parts. The motor mounts on a bracket on the right side of the grill and should be stored indoors between uses.

Can the analog model have the Magic View Window?

Yes. The Optional Magic View Window selector on this page adds the glass hood panel; the difference in price is shown on the selector. The window version carries the -W suffix, as in E790i-9EAN-W, and is listed in the Specifications tab alongside the standard lid. Compare the rest of the Echelon series here.

Which gas should I order?

Pick Natural Gas or Propane on the Gas Type selector. The Specifications tab lists E790I-9EAN for natural gas and E790I-9EAP for propane, each with a -W window variant. The manual includes orifice tables for both fuels, but ordering the correct version avoids a conversion, and propane installs need the manual’s cylinder and floor-level ventilation rules.
