Fire Magic Echelon E790i Built In Grill with Digital Thermometer: a 36 inch grill with phone temperature monitoring

The Fire Magic Echelon E790i Built In Grill with Digital Thermometer is a 36 inch built in gas grill from Fire Magic’s top line. Built in means it slides into a cutout in an outdoor kitchen island, so it has no legs of its own. Fire Magic builds it in the USA from 304 stainless steel, the grade that holds up best outdoors. Three cast stainless steel burners give 96,000 BTUs, and they are so thick that Fire Magic guarantees them for life. It gives you about 790 square inches of cooking space plus a warming rack.

The grates are Diamond Sear grids, thick stainless steel bars with a flat top for clean sear marks, and flavor grids under them turn drippings into smoke and keep flare ups down. The double walled hood holds heat like an oven, and halogen lights inside light the grates after dark. Push a knob in and a glow plug lights the burner, so plan for an outlet in the island. A touch screen under the black glass shows the oven heat, reads the included meat probe, and sends both to your phone. An infrared back burner at the rear runs the included rotisserie, so a chicken or a roast turns and bastes itself. On the page you pick natural gas or propane, and a Magic View Window, a glass panel in the hood for checking food without lifting the lid, is optional. Prefer a dial in the hood? See the Fire Magic Echelon E790i Built In Grill with Analog Thermometer. The Fire Magic Echelon E790i Built In Grill with Digital Thermometer ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

Features

Digital Underglass Thermometer

The State-of-the-art underglass electronic thermometer display has an impressive array of features including digital thermometer and  integrated smart technology that allows remote monitoring from a smartphone.

Diamond Sear Cooking Grids

Diamond Sear Cooking Grids are superior! Diamond Sear Cooking Grids have a patented* design with bars that have a smooth flat top. Each bar is shaped to optimally transfer the heat from the burners to the cooking surface…food cooks faster and more evenly!

Cast Stainless Steel Burners

Burners Made of ¼” Thick Cast 304 Stainless Steel 304 grade burners weighing up to 12 lbs, featuring a lifetime warranty. Designed with a protective lip above the ports to prevent clogging from grease. Guaranteed for life.

Flavor Grids

Flavor Grids perform by allowing heat to rise unobstructed from the burner to cooking grids. They disperse heat quickly and evenly flavor the food by vaporizing juices and minimizing flare ups and grease fires. They are also easy to clean and maintain.

Angled Halogen Internal Lights

The Echelon Diamond E660 and E790 grills have 2 internal halogen lamps. The E1060 grill has 3 lamps.

Digital Meat Probe

The Fire Magic digital meat probe reads the internal temperature of your meat. Keep the probe in your meat while it is grilling and read the temperature on the face of the grill, or you can read it on your smart phone device.

Recessed Infrared Backburner

The Fire Magic Infrared Backburner is a stainless steel mesh encased efficient ceramic system which provides much more BTU heat for quicker more efficient rotisserie grilling.   It includes a Stainless Steel Cover to protect the back burner when not in use.

Optional Magic View Window

All Fire Magic Echelon grills and Aurora (A790 & A660) Grills are offered with an optional Magic View Window, which allows you to monitor grilled foods without lifting the hood and losing valuable heat.

FAQ

How does the E790i compare with the larger E1060i?

The E790i is the 36-inch member of the Echelon Diamond family: 792 square inches of primary grid, a 288 square inch warming rack, 96,000 BTUs of main burner output and one 13,000 BTU infrared backburner. Its cutout is 37 inches wide. The 48-inch model steps up to 1,056 square inches, 112,000 BTUs, two backburners and a third interior lamp.

Do I choose natural gas or propane when I order?

Yes, use the Gas Type selector on this page before adding to cart. Natural gas ships as E790I-9E1N and propane as E790I-9E1P, with a -W suffix when the window is added. Order the right fuel from the start; the owner’s manual covers orifice changes, but it also spells out extra ventilation and cylinder rules for propane inside an enclosure.

What does the digital thermometer actually do?

The black glass control panel houses a touch-operated digital thermometer that shows oven temperature, meat probe temperature and a cooking timer. The manual explains that the RHP Connect app mirrors these readings on your phone. A digital meat probe and its bamboo storage box are listed as standard parts, and the probe can stay in the meat with the hood closed.

What cutout and enclosure does a 36-inch Echelon need?

Cut the countertop 37 inches wide by 23 1/2 inches deep by 11 1/2 inches high. The countertop itself must be non-combustible, and the manual requires the matching insulating liner if the enclosure is built from wood or another combustible material. Keep 18 inches of clearance around the grill and put a 120 volt GFCI outlet within reach for the ignition and lights. See all built-in grills for other widths.

How do I light the grill, and what if there is no power?

With power on, press a control knob in for about five seconds until the igniter glows inside the lighting tube, then turn the knob to the HI LIGHT position; the gas flow indicator on the knob turns red. Without power, the manual describes holding a long lighter or match at the top of the lighting tube while turning the knob. Wait five minutes after any failed attempt.

Can I add the Magic View Window to this grill?

Yes. The Optional Magic View Window selector on this page adds the glass lid panel, which lets you check food without raising the hood and losing heat. The price difference is shown on the selector rather than here. Choosing it changes the model number to the -W version shown in the Specifications tab.

Is the E790i set up for rotisserie cooking?

It is. A recessed 13,000 BTU infrared backburner sits at the back of the firebox under a stainless steel cover, and the owner’s manual lists the super heavy-duty rotisserie motor and spit rod as standard parts. The motor slides onto a bracket on the right side and plugs into the grill’s power. Turn the backburner down or off when you stop the rotisserie, and never run the motor in rain.
