Majestic DSR42: an open wood fire shared by two rooms
The Majestic DSR42 is an open indoor wood burning fireplace built into a dividing wall. See-Through means it sits inside a wall between two rooms, and both rooms see the same fire. It comes in one 42 inch size, with a 42 by 23 inch opening on each side. It is an open fireplace with no glass, so nothing sits between you and the fire. Radiant means the heat comes straight off the fire, with no fan to wire or run.
Your builder frames a wall around it, runs the chimney, and finishes it in stone, tile, or brick. The chimney pipe is sold separately, so ask us to quote the run. On the page you can add black folding glass doors for one side or both, a hearth extension, or a wood mantel or stone surround. Prefer a fire that faces just one room? FAQ
How big is the viewing area on each side?
Each face of this see-through fireplace shows a 42 by 23 inch opening, so two rooms get the same view of the fire. The unit itself measures 47 inches wide, 58-7/8 inches tall and 28 inches deep, with framing of 48 by 39-1/8 by 27 inches; the architect guide notes the framing above the front is filled in after the unit is set.
Are glass doors included?
Doors are optional, exactly as the description says. The Fronts and Doors selector offers a black glass bi-fold door as one set for a single face or two sets to cover both sides, and the selector shows the price for each choice. Ordered that way, the doors ship with the fireplace rather than as a separate purchase later.
Does the Designer see-through need outside air or a special chimney kit?
The Venting and Hearth selector lists 4 inch flex duct in insulated and uninsulated versions, a chimney air kit that the label notes is required in Canada, and a hearth extension kit. The architect guide shows a 2 inch minimum air space around the pipe; confirm the exact venting parts with the installation manual linked in the Manuals tab.
How much hearth do I need in front of a two-sided wood fireplace?
The DSR42 architect guide draws a 20 inch hearth extension across the full 66 inch finished width and asks for at least 12 inches from the opening to any perpendicular wall. Because both faces are open, plan a non-combustible hearth on each side of the wall; the guide also requires 7 feet from the fireplace base to the ceiling.
Can I use this as a room divider between a living room and dining area?
That is the design intent. The Features tab describes two-sided viewing that expands the fire into two rooms at once, and the architect guide includes a room-divider framing layout. It is a wood-burning unit listed to UL 127 and ULC S610, so the chimney runs straight up through the dividing wall. Browse other see through fireplaces to compare fuel types.
What mantel options work with it?
The Mantels and Surrounds selector offers a full wood mantel or 48 and 72 inch wood shelves in several materials, with made-to-order stains such as Provincial, New Gray, Whitewash and Ebony. The guide limits a combustible mantel to 1-1/2 inches of projection at 12 inches above the opening, so check that grid before choosing a deep shelf.
