Superior WRT8000: a wood burning fireplace with a 48 by 42 inch opening and a floor level fire
The Superior WRT8000 is the biggest wood burning fireplace Superior makes. The opening is 48 inches wide and 42 inches tall, giving you a view of a whole stack of burning logs, much like a great room hearth in an old lodge. The firebox floor sits flush with your hearth, so the fire burns right at floor level. Your builder frames a wall around it and finishes it in stone, tile, or brick. The inside is lined with Mosaic Masonry, real kiln fired firebrick laid in a split herringbone pattern. A large smoke dome above the fire draws the smoke up cleanly. The firebox is insulated all around.
It burns real logs and uses a 12 inch double wall chimney. The chimney pipe is sold separately, so ask us to quote the run. A heavy steel grate, forged andirons, and mesh screens come with it. On the page you pick the brick color, ivory, midnight, slate gray, or warm red. It is required. If the fireplace sits on a wood floor, add the hearth spacer to lift it clear of the floor. You can add a bi-fold glass door in ebony and an outside air kit. Need something smaller? See the Superior WRT6000 wood burning fireplace. The Superior WRT8000 ships free from My Cozy Outdoors with No Sales Tax (except WY) and the full manufacturer warranty.

FAQ
How big is the WRT8000 opening?
48 in wide and 42 in tall, the largest in Superior’s wood range, paired with a flush-to-hearth floor design. Framing is 60-7/8 in wide, 31-5/8 in deep and 76-3/8 in high with the hearth spacers or 71-1/2 in without, per the Specifications tab. It uses the IHP 12DM or 12HT chimney system, 12HT required in Canada.
Why is the firebrick liner required?
The WRT8000 ships as a firebox and needs a Mosaic Masonry kiln-fired firebrick liner in the split herringbone pattern to complete the interior; choose Ivory, Midnight, Slate Grey or Warm Red on the Mosaic Firebrick Liner selector. The liner installation instructions are linked in the Manuals tab, and the base price covers the firebox.
What is the hearth spacer for?
The flush hearth design sits at floor level, so on a combustible floor the Features tab requires the hearth spacer kit from the Hearth Spacer selector, which raises the unit and adds the extra framing height listed in the Specifications tab. The bi-fold ceramic glass door in ebony on the Glass Door row is offered with that spacer.
What is included?
A heavy-duty steel grate with rugged forged andirons, mesh fire screens, an easy-access damper control, a fully insulated firebox and the massive smoke dome with no visible smoke shelf. Chimney, liner, hearth spacer and door are chosen or quoted separately. See more wood burning indoor fireplaces.
Can I use gas logs?
Yes. The Features tab lists optional gas log sets, and Superior’s vented logs brochure names the WRT8048 among the fireplaces approved for its 36 in Dual-Burner sets; the vent-free logs brochure is linked in the Manuals tab. Log sets are separate purchases sized to the 48 by 42 in opening.
Is outside air available?
Yes. The Outside Air selector lists the 4 in collar with hood and flex, collar and hood only, a floor-vent version and a bulk collar pack, and the Features tab notes dual left- and right-hand kits for maximum performance. A large open fireplace like this draws a lot of air, so plan the kit during rough framing per the installation manual.
