Detroit Radiant ELD 46 Inch Dual Element Heater: two heating elements for a wide patio table
The Detroit Radiant ELD 46 Inch Dual Element Heater is an electric patio heater for a wide table or long bar. It is 46 inches long, with a black powder coated steel or brushed stainless steel housing. Adjustable ceiling brackets are included for mounting as low as 7 feet. Optional brackets allow wall mounting. Radiant heat warms people and surfaces directly, like sunshine, instead of warming the air, so it works outdoors. Detroit Radiant Products is a family owned company founded in 1955 that builds its heaters in Warren, Michigan.
Two side by side elements give more heat per foot than a single element ELX. Both give off white light. Choose high output elements for 6,000 to 6,400 watts or standard elements for 4,000 watts. Pick your finish, too. An electrician wires it to the voltage you pick on the page; it is not a plug in heater. All components have a one year warranty. Want the largest ELD? FAQ
How much heat does the 46 inch put out?
4,000 watts with standard ELDM elements or 6,000 to 6,400 watts with high-output ELDT elements from its two lamps, roughly 13,648 to 21,837 BTU per hour per the Specifications tab. That makes it the second-largest ELD chassis, sized for a long bar, a loading dock door or a wide patio table run rather than a single seat.
Why is there no 120 volt option?
At this wattage the ELD data sheet only builds the 46 inch model for commercial supplies: the Voltage selector starts at 208 volts and runs to 575, with the ELDM element rated 208 to 480 volts and the ELDT 240 to 575 volts. A 120 volt circuit cannot carry the load, so plan a dedicated supply with your electrician before ordering.
What clearances and mounting height?
The clearance sheet in the Manuals tab gives a level ELDT 46 inch 30 inches to the sides and ends, 20 inches above and 56 inches below, with a 7 foot minimum mounting height; the ELDM version needs 23 inches sideways, 16 above and 44 below. At a 30 degree tilt the side figure rises to 50 inches, and any angle in between must meet the larger of the two sets.
How does it ship?
Truckline only, no UPS, per the Specifications tab, because a 46 inch chassis exceeds parcel limits; the listing includes free shipping within the continental United States. Arrange someone to receive the freight delivery, and check the housing and reflector for transit damage before installation.
Can I recess it into a ceiling?
Yes. The Accessories selector offers 46 inch double-element recessed mount kits in black or stainless, and the EL-RM installation sheet linked under Manuals covers the framing. The clearance sheet is explicit that the published clearances still apply with a recessed kit, so the ceiling cavity and any nearby insulation must respect the same distances.
Indoor or outdoor, and what warranty?
UL listed for indoor and outdoor commercial use and outdoor residential use per the brochure, with black or brushed stainless housing and a 1 year warranty on all components. Adjustable 0 to 30 degree brackets are included, wall brackets are on the selector. See more commercial patio heaters if you need gas at this scale.
